Pirelli test nieuwe band voor 2021 in Portugal

Bandenleverancier Pirelli heeft de laatste details uitgewerkt voor hun nieuwe band voor volgend jaar. Deze band zal getest worden op de vrijdag tijdens de Portugese Grand Prix in Portimao. Het is de laatste kans voor het Italiaanse concern om nog aanpassingen te doen.

Ondanks dat de FIA wil dat de banden hetzelfde blijven, hoopt Pirelli na de test een verbeterde constructie te kunnen doorvoeren. Dit moet voor 1 november kenbaar gemaakt worden bij de FIA.

Door de beperkte testmogelijkheden zal de fabrikant geen compleet nieuw rubber introduceren. "Het is vooral ons doel om een completere band te ontwikkelen waarbij er met lagere bandendruk gereden kan worden", zegt Pirelli-baas Mario Isola tegenover Autosport.

Ook heeft de reductie van tien procent downforce een positieve invloed. "De plannen van volgend jaar helpen de banden beter te laten werken en voorkomen oververhitting."

Buiten de raceweekenden om is het voor de firma niet mogelijk om banden uit te proberen. De regels schrijven voor dat er bij een vrije training de eerste dertig minuten beschikbaar zijn. Alle rijders zijn verplicht om ermee te rijden. Elk team krijgt drie setjes. Er zijn totaal tussen de acht en tien verschillende banden. "We gaan niet de precieze getallen geven, want de test is blind voor de teams. Ze mogen er geen informatie uit halen", zegt de Pirelli-baas.

"We leggen aan de teams een plan voor en zorgen ervoor dat ze evenveel rondes rijden. De bedoeling is dat de ene rijder een band krijgt voor een korte stint en de andere rijder voor een lange stint. We gaan het zo eerlijk mogen doen."

Blijft jammer dat pirelli steeds faalt met goede banden maken en afhankelijke zijn van de FIA om het downforce niveau terug te dringen omdat ze anders bang zijn dat hun banden het niet houden. Sowieso zijn de strategieën voorspelbaar en is er weinig variatie mogelijk. Tenzij er een safetycar komt, maar daar zorgt de wedstrijdleiding wel voor ook al is er niks gevaarlijks aan de hand.

  Pirelli is net als alle andere fabrikanten in staat om hele goeie banden te maken. Ze hebben echter te maken met de wensen van de FIA, die geen banden wil die de hele race meegaan. dat houd in dat er wel eens iets met een band kan gebeuren. Verder pushen de teams en zoeken ze de grenzen van de mogelijkheden op. Ook van de banden. Als men daar een beetje meer marge zou inbouwen dan zou er geen enkel probleem zijn met de banden. Maar ja, dat is de aard van de competitie. Het zou hetzelfde zijn voor een andere leverancier.

  Iedereen wil dezelfde banden behouden nu ze die eindelijk onder ´xontrole´ hebben. Stel dat de werkingstemeratuur behoorlijk vergroot zie ik ze wel te veranderen maar dat zal niet veel veranderen. Als ze de constructie aanpassen zijn ze nog verder van huis. Dus nee, ik zie dat niet gebeuren....

Nu hebben ze de aero aangepast voor 2021, en dan nog komen ze in extremis en op de valreep met nieuwe banden..... Zou het niet beter zijn de volledige ontwikkelingstijd te focussen op die nieuwe 18 inch banden en extreem andere wagens? Graag eindelijk eens een compleet nieuwe band .... ik geef het je nu al op een briefje, straks komen ze weer tijd tekort om die te ontwikkelen.
