Alexander Albon: "VT3 gaat ons vertellen waar we staan"

Alexander Albon was tevreden met de vrijdag in Portugal. Voor hem was het circuit niet nieuw, wat voor velen wel was. Al vertelde hij eerder daar geen voordeel uit te kunnen halen. Het circuit dat in 2008 opende had een nieuwe laag asfalt gekregen.

Veel coureurs klaagde over die laag, ook voor Albon was het net te glad. “Het circuit is leuk maar het leek een beetje op een ijsbaan met gebrek aan grip en toenemende wind. Met de dalende temperatuur van de baan en het aantrekken van de wind werd de baan er niet beter op gedurende de dag, dus ik voelde me eigenlijk beter in FP1 dan in FP2.”

Morgen nieuwe kansen

Volgens Albon wordt het morgen een leuke kwalificatie, omdat je vandaag moeilijk kon zien waar iedereen staat. “Het is een nieuwe uitdaging die het interessant maakt en ik ben er zeker van dat met een derde oefensessie morgen de baan beter aanvoelt voor de kwalificatie. Het is moeilijk om te zien waar we echt staan na vandaag. Je kunt alleen het verschil in tijden zien met de rest van het veld. De tijden zijn wisselvallig, wat volgens mij gewoon te wijten is aan de veranderende windomstandigheden bij elke run, dus we zullen morgen meer weten over waar iedereen staat.”

Morgen mag de Thaise-Brit zich bewijzen tijdens de kwalificatie. De coureur van Red Bull Racing moet zijn stoeltje verdedigen voor het 2021-seizoen.

VT3 is nog niet belangrijk,je zal voor je stoeltje voor volgend seizoen toch eens een keer binnen 2 tiende achter of zelfs nog beter (voor jouw dan) ervoor Max moeten staan.
Morgen opstaan voor de spiegel gaan staan en keihard naar jezelf roepen: 'ik kan het!!!!'
