Lewis Hamilton: "Q1 gaat belangrijk worden"

Lewis Hamilton kon zich bewijzen in de eerste vrije training op de vrijdag in Portugal, maar tijdens de tweede vrije training was hij ver weg gezakt. De Brit finishte op de achtste plaats, wat niet normaal is voor de regerend wereldkampioen.

Sinds 2008 is het circuit geopend waar dit weekend de Formule 1-race wordt georganiseerd. Het heeft dit jaar een nieuwe asfaltlaag gekregen, waar de coureurs niet zo blij mee zijn. Al vindt Lewis Hamilton z’n gladde vloer wel fijn. "De hoogteverschillen op deze baan zijn ongelooflijk. Er zijn veel plaatsen waar je gewoon niet kunt zien waar je heen gaat, dus dat is een hele uitdaging en het circuit is ook erg glad. Ik denk dat de omstandigheden op het circuit de hele dag niet zoveel zijn veranderd."

Last van de wind

De wind nam toe, zo gaf Max Verstappen eerder aan, ook Lewis Hamilton had daar last van. "De wind trok aan en ik weet niet of hij van richting veranderde, maar het maakte het lastig. Helaas stond de auto langer binnen dan we hadden gehoopt met de twee rode vlaggen in FP2. Ik denk dat FP1 de betere sessie voor mij was, ook al voelde de auto niet zo goed aan. We hebben toen wat wijzigingen aangebracht en het voelde best slecht in FP2, dus we moeten een paar stappen terug doen om uit te zoeken waar het mis ging met de set-up en kijken of we morgen kunnen verbeteren."

Lewis Hamilton blikt vooruit op de kwalificatie. "Vooruitkijkend zal het er niet makkelijker op worden om een duidelijk gat te krijgen op het circuit met Red Bull, want het is echt moeilijk om de banden op de juiste temperatuur te krijgen, zelfs met de zachte banden, die eigenlijk de beste zijn. Q1 wordt spannend, met veel auto's buiten, het wordt een gevecht om een goede positie te krijgen. Maar dat is wat we doen en iedereen zit in hetzelfde schuitje!"

Ga toch weg man, zelfs op 80% snelheid kwalificeert zo'n Mercedes zich nog voor Q2..

Hij reed longruns op vrijdag de vos ,je gaat geen snelle tijd rijden na 19 ronden dus hij zeer veel benzine aan boord
