Chase Carey blij met Saudi-Arabië: "Een groot publiek wat we daar willen bereiken"

Onlangs heeft de Formule 1 bevestigd dat het 2021-seizoen een gloednieuwe race bevat: de Grand Prix van Saudi-Arabië. Waar er in eerste instantie veel kritiek op was - het land zou worden beschuldigd van 'Sportwashing' - geeft F1-topman Chase Carey toe dat de organisatie ontzettend blij is dat ze de race hebben kunnen strikken.

"We zijn ontzettend blij dat we Saudi-Arabië erbij hebben kunnen krijgen voor de 2021-kalender. Het is een land dat snel een belangrijke plek wordt voor sportevenementen, aangezien veel grote evenementen er inmiddels georganiseerd zijn, daarom zijn we blij dat we Formule 1 daaraan hebben kunnen toevoegen", aldus Carey.

"De regio is ontzettend belangrijk voor ons, aangezien 70% van hun bevolking onder de 30 is, en dat is precies de doelgroep die we willen bereiken", zo vertelt Carey verder.

Ook Khalid Bin Sultan Al Faisal - President van de Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation is zeer te spreken over de aankondiging: "Ik ben van mening dat de Grand Prix van Saudi-Arabië één van de meest succesvolle sportevenementen aller tijden kan worden voor Saudi-Arabië", zo vertelt hij. "Het land heeft geen rijke motorsport-historie, maar in korte tijd hebben we onszelf flink geprofileerd door onder andere Formule E en Dakar. Mede hierdoor hebben we miljoenen motorsportfanaten in het land, die allemaal al uitkijken naar november 2021", zo sluit Al Faisal af.
