Williams wisselt teampersoneel na coronabesmettingen

Williams heeft onthuld dat ze na een aantal positieve coronatest diverse teamleden, voornamelijk fabriekspersoneel, naar de Turkse Grand Prix zullen vliegen.

In een verklaring op hun website bevestigde het in Grove gevestigde Formule 1-team dat het verschillende personeel aanwezig zal zijn in Istanbul Park vanwege de zelfisolatieprotocollen die worden gehanteerd wanneer positieve tests voor het coronavirus plaatsvinden.

Er werden verder geen uitspraken gedaan over welke personeelsleden besmet zijn. Tijdens de Grand Prix van Emilia Romagna in Imola werd bekend dat de fysio van Williams-coureur George Russell besmet is met het coronavirus. Russell, zo werd gemeld, had eerder contact gehad met Casanovas de zondag ervoor, toen de Portugese Grand Prix had plaatsgevonden.

De Britse coureur testte echter negatief en nam deel aan de race in Imola, waar hij zich als 13e kwalificeerde en vervolgens achter de Safety Car crashte, terwijl hij kans maakte om zijn eerste Formule 1-punten te scoren.

De verklaring van Williams luidde: "Williams kan bevestigen dat we een aantal positieve coronatests hebben gehad tijdens de Portugese en Emilia Romagna Grands Prix. Hoewel we de privé-informatie van een persoon niet gedetailleerd zullen beschrijven, kunnen we bevestigen dat alle gevallen zijn afgehandeld in overeenstemming met de FIA richtlijnen, waarbij samenwerking met de FIA en de voortdurende veiligheid van onze mensen een prioriteit is."

"Om ervoor te zorgen dat we deze richtlijnen volgen, isoleren we verschillende teamleden van ons raceteam omdat ze worden geïdentificeerd als nauwe contacten van deze positieve gevallen. Conform onze interne protocollen zullen daarom een aantal teamleden die normaal op de fabriek werken, deze rollen vervullen voor het komende Turkse Grand Prix-weekend."
