Lando Norris over voorbereiding GP Turkije: "Ik heb het circuit via video's bestudeerd"

De Grand Prix van Turkije staat voor dit weekend op de kalender. Het circuit stond niet op de kalender die oorspronkelijk werd uitgebracht door de Formule 1, maar door het coronavirus kwam er een nieuwe kalender waar dit circuit wel op stond. Het is geen nieuw circuit voor de koningsklasse van de autosport. Er werd daar sinds 2005 een Grand Prix verreden, de laatste was in 2011.

Bocht nummer acht is de lastigste bocht van het circuit. De bocht is erg lang en je kan er met veel snelheid doorheen. Ook heeft het circuit een nieuwe laag asfalt, wat we kennen van het circuit in Portugal. Coureurs zullen hierdoor in de problemen kunnen komen.

Voor veel coureurs is dit circuit nieuw, behalve voor de coureurs die al een aantal jaar meedraaien. Lando Norris, de coureur van McLaren, kent het circuit niet en heeft zin in een leuke uitdaging. "Istanbul Park wordt dit weekend een nieuwe uitdaging voor mij, aangezien ik daar nog nooit eerder heb geracet. Het is een baan waar ik echt naar uitkijk", zo zegt de coureur tegenover Sky Sports.

Norris gaat er niet heen zonder voorbereiding en heeft op YouTube extra video’s gekeken. "Van wat ik heb gezien en de clips die ik online heb bekeken, heeft het alle onderdelen om er een spannende race van te maken. Als mensen het over dit circuit hebben, hebben ze het over bocht acht, wat een leuke uitdaging zal zijn om vol gas doorheen te gaan."

Spannende strijd

Ook kwam de coureur nog terug op de ontzettend spannende strijd om de derde plek in het constructeurs kampioenschap. "De strijd om de derde plek is zo spannend met slechts één punt tussen drie teams. Ik weet dat iedereen in het team alles zal geven om dit weekend het beste te doen wat we kunnen."

Het tijdschema is ook anders. We starten de eerste training om 09:00 op de vrijdag, de tweede training gaat vier uur later van start. Zaterdag begint de actie om 10:00 met de derde vrije training. De kwalificatie op zaterdag zal om 13:00 van start gaan en de race op de zondag om 11:10.
