Strategie Alex Albon: "Ik ga kwalificatie rijden met veel benzine en zachte banden"

Alex Albon heeft het gevoel dat het gebruik van de zachtste banden en veel brandstof de enige manier is om zich goed te kwalificeren voor de Turkse GP. Het nieuwe, glanzende oppervlak van Istanbul Park maakte de ochtend en middagtrainingen op vrijdag meer vergelijkbaar met Formule 1 op het ijs dan met een traditionele Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton noemde het "Shit met een hoofdletter S", terwijl Lando Norris de vrijdagtraining "drift school" noemde op zijn verjaardag.

Maar na alle glij momenten en vaak ook de enge situaties komt het punt snel dichterbij waar serieus moet worden nagedacht over de kwalificatie op zaterdag en hoe de coureurs genoeg grip gaan vinden om een competitieve rondetijd te kunnen neerzetten.

Strategie kwalificatie

Albon reed gisteren de vijfde tijd in zijn RB16 en denkt dat de kwalificatie dit weekend een andere benadering moet krijgen. Volgens de teamgenoot van Verstappen zal iedereen op zachte banden moeten rijden en met net zoveel benzine als tijdens de race.

De Thaise Brit zei na de vrijdag: "Het was een positieve dag en het is altijd leuk om een nieuwe baan uit te proberen. In de eerste en tweede vrije training was het meer als een ijsbaan en een beetje raar omdat het geen normaal gevoel is om te rijden met een wagen die voelt als een driftwagen. Je glijdt gewoon rond, wat natuurlijk leuk is op een bepaalde manier, maar het is ook niet wat een F1-auto leuk vindt!"

"Om de banden aan het werk te krijgen moet je ze ver uit je comfortzone duwen, dus dat is lastig. We hadden verwacht dat de zachtere banden het misschien wat makkelijker zouden maken op het gebied van grip, maar ze hielpen niet zoveel als we dachten, dus ik weet niet wat de teams gaan doen in de kwalificatie."

"Het voelt alsof we allemaal de zachte banden moeten gebruiken en de auto's vol moeten tanken zoals voor een race en gewoon rondjes moeten blijven rijden!"

Omgekeerde psychologie! Nu gaat natuurlijk iedereen met een volle tank rijden en alleen albon met een lege en zo kan hij dan eindelijk een keer zijn 8 tienden vinden om überhaupt in de top 3 te komen.

  De gedachte van Albon is lang zo gek nog niet. Met een zware auto heb je meer druk op je banden waardoor je er meer temperatuur in kan krijgen en dus sneller kan rijden dan een lichte auto. Kijk bijv naar de Moto GP waar een zware en lange coureur als Petrucci echt een onwijs goede regenrijder, is en daar zijn meeste poles en overwinningen aan te danken heeft.

Slim, door teveel benzine mee te nemen heeft hij een reden waarom hij weer zover achter max staan. `'Ja, maar mijn auto zat vol, die van max reed op dampen de pits terug in." Zo lijkt hij niet gewoon te slecht, maar te dom om te racen bij RBR.
In de race schijnt hij dan weer maar een halve tank mee te willen nemen. Komt hij wat sneller weg bij de start.

Ik vind het allemaal aanstellers. Ze rijden in de f1, dus het zijn de beste rijders van de wereld. Al moeten ze letterlijk over een ijsbaan rijden, de omstandigheden zijn gelijk. Deal with it.
