Red Bull-reservecoureur wil geen racestoeltje

Juri Vips heeft geruchten ontkend dat hij aan de vooravond van een Formule 1-racedebuut zou kunnen staan. Hoewel het aantal plaatsen voor volgend jaar beperkt is, is het opmerkelijk dat Red Bull heeft aangedrongen op een superlicentie voor de 20-jarige coureur uit Estland.

Het jonge talent van Red Bull zegt tegen de Estse omroep ERR: "Ik weet dat het behalen van de superlicentie niets betekent voor volgend jaar, want volgend seizoen zal ik niet in de Formule 1 zitten."

Vips is momenteel de officiële reservecoureur voor de twee Formule 1-teams van Red Bull. Zowel Red Bull Racing als AlphaTauri kunnen dit weekend gebruik maken van Vips, mocht één van de 4 coureurs niet kunnen racen in Turkije.

"Als er iets met iemand gebeurt, heb ik een kans om te racen", bevestigde hij. "Ook met de superlicentie zal de druk volgend jaar veel minder zijn. Ik zal in de Formule 2 rijden. De afgelopen jaren moest ik op bepaalde plaatsen in de categorieën zijn om punten te halen voor de superlicentie, maar nu heb ik die eindelijk."
