Peter Bonnington (Bonno): "Michael en Lewis, het zijn legendes om mee te werken"

Lewis Hamilton heeft zojuist zijn zevende wereldtitel binnengehaald. Een super resultaat en evenaart het record van Michael Schumacher, die ook zeven Formule 1-wereldtitels heeft behaald.

Bonnington was eerder de race-engineer van Michael Schumacher, ook zevenvoudig wereldkampioen. Bonno begon zijn Formule 1-carrière als data-engineer bij Jordan in de vroege jaren 2000. Hij heeft samengewerkt met Giorgio Pantano en Timo Glock. De Engelsman voegde zich vervolgens bij het Honda-team als een hulpje van de oude race-engineer Jock Clear. Pete heeft de bijnaam "Bonno" in de Formule 1 geërfd dankzij zijn achternaam. Hij is nu de engineer van Lewis Hamilton.

Hij is blij met het resultaat wat het team en zijn coureur heeft bereikt. “Ze (de titels red.) zijn allemaal zo super speciaal. Je kunt het niet vergelijken om eerlijk te zijn. Ze zijn gewoon fantastisch. Het is gewoon zo geweldig om hier te komen en naar dit uitzicht te kijken. Dit jaar met alle problemen in de wereld is het echt bijzonder om het te bereiken, gefocust te blijven en ervoor te zorgen dat we het resultaat voor het team binnenhalen”, zo zegt hij tegenover Sky Sports.

“Het resultaat dat ze verdienen. Michael was zo'n legende om mee te werken, en dan komt Lewis langs. Hij is hier en de rockstar en ik ben de one incharge. Het is gewoon WOW. Niemand kan niet verrast worden door die prestatie die hij vandaag heeft geleverd. Halverwege de race zaten we in het tempo en hij controleerde het.”

  sport is vooral de waan van de dag. En zo hoort het ook te zijn. Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton? Federer, Nadal of Sampras? daar ga je toch niet uitkomen en is eigenlijk ook helemaal niet van belang. In F1 is het al lastig genoeg om de huidige coureurs een eerlijk vergelijk te geven.

  de titel is zonder meer terecht, wanneer het moet dan staat hij er telkens weer die Lewis.
  ik kan ook wel leven met Lewis als WK, 't zou alleen mooi geweest zijn als hij kampioen geworden was met wat meer tegenstand, that's all..
