Sepang hoopt nog altijd op terugkeer op F1-kalender

De F1-kalender van 2021 is vorige week onder voorbehoud bekend gemaakt en daar was te zien dat Vietnam niet langer op het schema voor volgend jaar te vinden is. Op die datum zal een andere Grand Prix worden gepland en er is nog altijd hoop dat Maleisië die plek zal invullen.

Veel fans maar ook zeker coureurs hopen dat het Sepang-circuit weer op de kalender terugkeert. Het mooie glooiende circuit waar altijd wat te beleven viel is populair. Ook bij de Russische commentator Alex Popov: "Ze begonnen meteen te praten over Sepang of Istanboel. Ik ben een groot fan van Sepang. Ik was er voor de allereerste race in 1999."

"Het was de eerste 'Tilke-o-drome', lang voor alle anderen. Sindsdien ben ik dol op dat circuit. Voor mij was het het grootste verlies op de kalender. Dus als ze me zouden vragen welk circuit van alle afwezige circuits ik zou willen zien - Portimao, Imola, Nurburgring, alle anderen - dan zou ik altijd Sepang kiezen," voegde Popov eraan toe.

"Als we kiezen uit wat we dit jaar hebben gezien, dan hoop ik dat Mugello, Portimao en de Nurburgring het mij zullen vergeven, maar ik geef de voorkeur aan Istanboel. Omdat het asfalt daar uiteindelijk wel goed komt. We hebben dit eerder gezien toen de eerste race in Austin hetzelfde was, maar nu wordt het door iedereen geprezen."

"De circuit zelf in Turkije is erg cool", besluit Popov.

Wat mij betreft horen ze alle vier op de kalender. Alle elementen zijn aanwezig die een circuit hoort te hebben en inhalen is goed mogelijk. Kap maar eens met die optocht in Monaco zou ik zeggen. Die is net zo achterhaalt als ons koningshuis.

Wat mij betreft horen ze alle vier op de kalender. Alle elementen zijn aanwezig die een circuit hoort te hebben en inhalen is goed mogelijk. Kap maar eens met die optocht in Monaco zou ik zeggen. Die is net zo achterhaalt als ons koningshuis.

  Monaco is een race als de indy 500, Leman. Het zijn de jaarlijkse races die bekend zijn buiten de sportfanaten.

  Zoals je zelf al aangeeft: Mensen die verder niets met de sport hebben. Lekker schrappen dus. Dan completeren we de "triple crown" met een traditioneel circuit waar je wel goed op kan racen met hedendaagse bolides, voor wat het waard is. Monaco kan je nog winnen als je 200 pk te kort komt. Heeft niets maar dan ook niets met racen te maken.

Ik zou zeer tevreden zijn als Maleisië terugkomt op de kalender. Verwacht echter niet dat dit zal gebeuren.

De andere racebanen die worden genoemd; Portimao, Imola, Nurburgring en Istanboel zouden inderdaad ook allemaal een waardevolle toevoeging zijn.

Voor mij zou het dan zijn:
- Imola
- Portimao
- Sepang
- Istanboel

Ik mis de races met veel regen zoals Maleisië destijds. Als je kijkt dat toen er gewoon geracet werd terwijl je letterlijk waterstromen op asfalt zag - was de huidige veiligheid heel ver te zoeken.

  Nou... de 2009 versie mis ik niet hoor... vroeg opstaan voor een halve race en halve punten haha.
  Nee Sepang is een pareltje. Zowel live op tv als om te gamen is de baan een plezier. Veel beter dan de lay-out van Vietnam.

Sepang is een ontzettend gaaf circuit waar we ook mooie races gezien hebben. Hoort er echt bij wat dat betreft.

Imola is een stuk minder spannend. Ja, leuke sfeer maar hoe vaak hebben we daar met de layout sinds 1995 nou gave races gehad? Amper tot niet.

Wat is dit voor vreemd bericht, past totaal niet bij de titel. Titel zou moeten zijn: Popov hoopt op terugkeer Sepang.

Maleisië zelf nam 2 jaar geleden heel doelbewust afscheid omdat ze motorsport belangrijker vonden dan autosport. Nergens in dit bericht wordt dan ook door een Maleisiër gevraagd om een terugkeer op de kalender.

Ikzelf hoop uiteraard ook op een terugkeer simpelweg omdat dit een zeer mooi en historisch F1 circuit is.
