Alex Zanardi naar plaatselijk ziekenhuis gebracht

Paralympisch goudenmedaillewinnaar Alex Zanardi, werd zaterdag overgebracht naar een ziekenhuis in Padua om zijn herstel verder af te maken. Dit is vijf maanden nadat hij een zeer ernstig ongeluk kreeg.

Voormalig Formule 1-coureur en tweevoudig C ART-kampioen onderging veel operaties in verschillende ziekenhuizen in Siena en later in Milaan om hem te stabiliseren en zijn ernstig beschadigde gezicht te reconstrueren nadat hij op 19 juni tijdens een estafette nabij de Toscaanse stad Pienza tegen een tegemoetkomende vrachtwagen was gereden met zijn fiets.

Het ziekenhuis kwam met het volgende statement. "De patiënt heeft een over het algemeen stabiele fysieke en neurologische toestand bereikt waardoor hij kon worden overgebracht naar een ander ziekenhuis dat was uitgerust met alle noodzakelijke klinische specialismen en dichter bij het ouderlijk huis", zei het San Raffaele-ziekenhuis in Milaan in een verklaring.

De 54-jarige had een zwaar ongeluk, want hij liep bij de crash ernstig gezichts- en craniaal trauma op en raakte in een medisch geïnduceerde coma. Als gevolg van dit kan hij ernstige hersenschade krijgen. Het is niet de eerste keer dat hij een zwaar ongeluk meemaakt. De oud-coureur verloor ongeveer 20 jaar geleden zijn beide benen bij een race-crash.

De coureur gaf zijn leven niet op en ging voor de Paralympische Spelen, hij was daar zeer succesvol. Hij won vier gouden medailles en twee zilveren medailles op de Paralympische Spelen van 2012 en 2016. Hij nam ook deel aan de New York City Marathon en vestigde een Ironman-record in zijn klasse.

Trieste zaak dit, Alex is een leuke sociale aimabele man. Heb hem zelf 1x van dichtbij gezien: september 1999 tijdens de Winfield Williams demo op Zandvoort. Winfield deelde nog gratis blikjes koelers uit met hun print erop..mooie tijden tabakssponsoring op circuits! Ook fijne herinneringen aan de Marlboro Masters in de jaren 90.
Olav Mol had na de demo nog een interview met Ralf Schumacher en Alex Zanardi op het rechte stuk voor de hoofdtribune. Hij had zn benen toen nog :(

  Zijn gezicht was totaal verbrijzeld met t verlies v beide ogen en zware hersenbeschadiging als ik het bericht juist herinner. Lijkt me sterk dat hij hier dan sterker uit zal komen. De kans dat hij de rest v zijn bestaan in licht vegatieve toestand doorbrengt lijkt me helaas vele malen groter..

  Ik kan het er niet goed uithalen. Of hij nu daadwerkelijk zwaar hersentrauma heeft of dat dit door de kunstmatige coma alsnog kan ontstaan(dat is wel wat er staat, maar of dat klopt?..)Is wat onduidelijk. Hoop dat hij het redt met behoud van verstandelijke vermogens en gezichtsvermogen. Wat een nachtmerrie voor hem en vooral ook zijn naasten. Die hebben al heel wat voor hun kiezen gehad. Zo’n knokker en positief mens gun je het allerbeste.
