Rio de Janeiro op zoek naar nieuwe locatie voor F1-circuit

Rio de Janeiro geeft zijn ambities om een Formule 1-race te organiseren niet op. Eerder bevestigde Chase Carey dat er in principe een overeenkomst is gesloten, maar deze afhankelijk was van milieugoedkeuring die uiteindelijk niet werd verkregen.

Het betekent dat Interlagos voorlopig op de F1-kalender blijft, maar die race zal worden hernoemd. De Braziliaanse Grand Prix op Interlagos wordt verandert in Grand Prix van Sao Paulo. Hiermee behoudt de F1 juridisch de kans om ergens anders alsnog een Grand Prix van Brazilië te organiseren.

O Globo meldt dat de regio Deodoro om milieuredenen het problematisch vindt dat de F1 naar Rio komt. Hierdoor zijn de promotors nu op zoek zijn naar een nieuwe locatie. "Er zijn vijf alternatieve locaties voorgesteld voor een mogelijk circuit, allemaal in het westen van Rio, weg van het stadscentrum", beweert een bron.

Ondanks dat het rondom het circuit van Interlagos niet altijd even veilig is vind ik dat dit historische circuit niet van de kalender mag verdwijnen. Is één van de mooiste banen en staat bijna altijd garand voor spektakel!

    Ondanks dat het rondom het circuit van Interlagos niet altijd even veilig is vind ik dat dit historische circuit niet van de kalender mag verdwijnen. Is één van de mooiste banen en staat bijna altijd garand voor spektakel!

      Ik vermoed dat de veiligheid niet de grote issue is in deze, maar een mooie mogelijkheid om het huidige circuit te annexeren voor nieuwe woonwijken.
      Daarmee vervalt ook meteen het bestaansrecht van de sloppenwijken die momenteel nog tussen de stad en het circuit ingeklemd is.

      Jammer van het circuit met deze prachtige historie.
      Van mij mogen ze het tot in de eeuwigheid behouden.

      Ik denk dat dit meer te maken heeft met de eeuwige strijd tussen Rio en Sao Paulo.
      Waarom het circuit van Rio, Jacarepagua hiervoor niet gebruikt wordt snap ik niet helemaal.

      Ik zal ook een duit in het zakje doen... Ik denk dat het dan juist vooral weer te maken heeft met geld geld en nog eens geld. Waarom in Sao Paula blijven wanneer je (veel) meer kunt verdienen in Rio als F1/Carey zijnde.

      Bekijk de stappen die deze man heeft gezet qua nieuwe GP's en het wordt toch wel duidelijk dat geld veel belangrijker is dan historie of het type circuit. Vietnam kwam met een zal geld en hoppa... Even wat huizen wegbulldozeren zonder dan deze mensen werden gecompenseerd, maar boeiend... De beste Amerikaan heeft zijn GP in Viet freaking nam (de ironie trouwens). Daarna even vol meeliften op het (commerciële) succes van Max en we gaan terug naar Zandvoort. Nog een mooie speech erbij dat oldschool tracks echt is wat F1 moet hebben.

      Dan lanceren we een 'We race as one' campagne om vervolgens naar Saoudi Arabia te mogen waar ze hun reet afvegen met die Race as one campagnebanners. Uiteraard zijn dan de moderne en nachtelijke tracks de shizzle manizzle waar de F1 niet zonder kan. Tot slot gaan we naar Rio, een overbevolkte stad waar al jarenlang grote milieuproblemen zijn... En laten we het over het illegaal kappen van oerwoudelen maar niet hebben om een stukje asfalt neer te leggen dat uiteraard weer 'beter' gaat zijn dan Interlagos. Iets dat de F1 echt nodig heeft.

      Nee Carey heeft zijn snor wel goed gedrukt. Ben benieuwd wanneer hij hem eraf haalt. Na movember net als Bottas?
