Sainz wil na Abu Dhabi met Ferrari uit 2018 gaan testen

Carlos Sainz rijdt volgend seizoen voor Ferrari maar denkt al na over de mogelijkheden om zich goed voor te bereiden. De Spanjaard maakt zich zorgen dat nieuwe testlimieten betekenen dat hij en zijn volgende teamgenoot Charles Leclerc slechts anderhalve dag van de voorbereiding van het seizoen krijgen.

"We zullen een manier vinden om de verliezen te minimaliseren, maar niets is hetzelfde als testen", zei de huidige McLaren-coureur Sainz in Bahrein. "Het wordt zeker mijn moeilijkste winter in de Formule 1. Anderhalve dag voorbereidingstijd is niet genoeg om me voor te bereiden gezien de complexiteit van deze auto's. Ik kan je verzekeren dat Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo en ik alles opnieuw uit moeten vinden bij de eerste race van het jaar."

Test met oude Ferrari

Sainz geeft toe dat het waarschijnlijk niet mogelijk is om de 2020 Ferrari te laten rijden tijdens de Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi, en daarom overwegen hij en het team uit Maranello andere opties. Sainz: "Een test met een Ferrari van twee seizoenen geleden is misschien een optie, maar ik heb nog steeds een verbintenis met McLaren, dus ik wil daar niet van afgeleid worden."

Minder bezorgd over de situatie is viervoudig wereldkampioen Sebastian Vettel, die in 2021 van Ferrari naar Aston Martin verhuist.

"Ik zit waarschijnlijk pas weer in de auto tijdens de wintertest. Als we echt maar drie dagen hebben, zoals blijkbaar gepland, dan is het zeker niet veel maar het is voor iedereen hetzelfde. In de loop der jaren zijn we gewend geraakt aan steeds minder testen. Je kunt nog steeds veel leren in een anderhalve dag,'' voegde Vettel eraan toe.

Ik neem aan dat ze veel in de simulator gaan zitten, om te wennen aan bediening van het stuurtje en communicatie en protocollen te testen.
