Vettel: "Overwinning in Monaco zou veel voor me betekenen"

Red Bull Racing-coureur Sebastian Vettel heeft nog geen geweldig track record in Monaco. Een vijfde plaats, een uitvalbeurt en een tweede positie vielen de regerend wereldkampioen ten deel in zijn drie optredens in het prinsdom. De Duitser hoopt daar zondag verandering in te brengen.

Vettel deelde aan de BBC mede: De historie en de traditie van de Grand Prix van Monaco zijn enorm en het zou een grote eer zijn om mijn naam aan de lijst van winnaars toe te voegen. Het kampioenschap is belangrijker, maar winst in Monaco zou wel veel voor me betekenen.

Dit is een circuit waar je als coureur het verschil kan maken. Maar het is nooit helemaal zwart en wit. Het weekend duurt lang, je komt misschien dingen tegen die je irriteren en die moet je dan met je meedragen. De focus is zeer intens en het is zaak om de hele tijd geconcentreerd te blijven.

Het circuit is zeer krap, er is weinig ruimte en hoe hoger je je kwalificeert, des te beter zijn de kansen op zondag. Maar we hebben dit jaar al gekke races gezien met de banden en we weten niet wat we voor Monaco moeten verwachten en hoeveel pitstops we nodig zullen hebben.
