Lewis Hamilton na 98 poles nog niet verzadigd: "Zeker geen perfect rondje"

Terwijl er voor de kwalificatie in Bahrein nog een sprankje hoop gloorde, dat Red Bull het Mercedes moeilijk zou kunnen maken in de strijd voor pole position, was het aan het einde van de rit toch weer Lewis Hamilton die de snelste tijd op het bord zette. De Brit met zijn betrouwbare Mercedes zijn een haast onverslaanbare combinatie gebleken in de kwalificaties in 2020. De ongenaakbare Hamilton verstevigde zijn record van meeste pole positions in de Formule 1 nog maar eens en staat inmiddels op het duizelingwekkende aantal van 98 poles.

Hamilton was echter niet heel uitgelaten na het behalen van de pole position in Bahrein: “Ik heb mijn zevende titel nog niet echt gevierd en ben druk bezig geweest om te trainen en te proberen mijn focus te bewaren. Dat is om door te zetten wat we tot nu toe als team bereikt hebben, want ze blijven me verbazen met hun harde werk week in, week uit. Ze zijn nu ook weer drie weken weg van hun families. Wat er ook zou gebeuren qua resultaten, het is hoe dan ook een heel zwaar jaar en dat schat ik enorm op waarde. Ik ben echter blij om hier te zijn, want het belangrijkste is om plezier te hebben in wat je doet en dat is fijn nu de druk er een beetje af is."

"Ik heb op het scherpst van de snede gereden en je weet het belangrijkste is om die balans te vinden tussen een goede snelheid bij het ingaan van de bocht, maar tegelijkertijd de maximale exitsnelheid te behalen. Er was misschien nog wat tijd te winnen in verschillende bochten, we kunnen het rondje anders wel even bocht voor bocht analyseren, maar het was zeker geen perfect rondje, maar wel een heel clean rondje," besloot Hamilton tevreden.

Max haalt er alles uit maar staat nog flink achter. En de reet daarna staat vanaf P4 op een seconde en meer. Het is te hopen voor de sport dat het weer spannend gaat worden. Ik ben zelf een enorme autosport fan en beleef altijd wel plezier aan het racen. Maar ik merk in mijn omgeving dat de gemiddeld geinterreseerde afhaakt. Aero versimpelen, deel van de ontwerpen delen per jaar, eenvoudige motoren, drempel voor new teams en suppliers verlagen.

Ja hij zal er op einde van het seizoen 100 aantikken. Indrukwekkend aantal en het ziet er helaas niet naar uit dat ze volgend jaar wel een tegenstander zullen hebben bij Mercedes.
