Vettel over kans op punten scoren in Bahrain: "Zo sluw als een vos zijn"

Ferrari zou zomaar het zevende snelste team kunnen zijn in Bahrein. Sebastian Vettel is daarom ook van mening dat het niet vanzelfsprekend is dat het team punten zal scoren op het Bahrain International Circuit. Bandenmanagement zal, onder andere, een belangrijke factor zijn wat die kans zal dicteren.

Het was ook niet slechts het gebrek aan snelheid in een rechte lijn wat voor Ferrari hun relatief slechte performance heeft bepaald. Vooral de bochtige sector 2 was voor met name Vettel een lastig punt. "Het was erg lastig en krap", aldus Vettel. "Sector 2 was niet ideaal, ik zat iets te dicht achter George (Russell) en dat hielp natuurlijk ook niet", zo legt de Duitser uit.

"Morgen is de race, en dat is uiteindelijk het enige dat telt. Daar draait het ook niet om snelheid over één ronde", zo vertelt Vettel verder. Om punten te scoren meent de viervoudig wereldkampioen dat ze slim met de baancondities om moeten gaan. "Deze baan is erg, erg ruw", zo vertelt Vettel. "Dat zal uiteindelijk bepalend zijn voor de race. Ik denk dat als we zo sluw als een vos zijn, dat we dan punten kunnen scoren", zo voorspelt Vettel. "Zo niet, dan wordt het een hele lange race."

Vettel zal graag een resultaat zien die op die van vorige race lijkt - de Duitser wist toen zijn SF1000 naar het podium te slepen. Dit weekend lijkt het er op dat dat er niet in zit, maar de Duitser zal hopen zo veel mogelijk punten te kunnen scoren; Ferrari kan immers nog meedoen voor P3 in het klassement.
