Christian Horner - teambaas bij Red Bull Racing - heeft verteld dat Toto Wolff hem na de twee vrije trainingen van de Grand Prix van Sakhir een sms stuurde. Max Verstappen sloot de twee trainingen als tweede af, met alleen George Russell sneller dan hem.

"Ik was verbaasd", aldus Christian. "Ik krijg nooit smsjes van Toto!" De Britse teambaas vertelt dat Toto Wolff hem zei dat de RB16 er snel uit ziet. "Hij zei dat we er met name in race-trim erg snel uit zien."

Echter, het ziet er naar uit dat het de W11 is die de te kloppen wagen is over één ronde. George Russell finishte beide sessies op vrijdag als snelste, en Bottas is over het algemeen altijd snel op een vrijdag. "Valtteri staat er altijd, hij is altijd snel op vrijdag", zo vertelt Horner verder. "En George heeft het geweldig gedaan, erg handig om beide sessies al bovenaan te staan. Zij zijn erg snel over één ronde, en wij snel in race-trim."

De Brit kreeg later ook nog een vraag over de controversie rondom de Young Driver Test, waarvoor Fernando Alonso het groene licht heeft gekregen ondanks het feit dat de Spanjaard alweer 39 jaar oud is. Daar kon Christian Horner wel de humor van in zien. "Misschien moeten we Nigel Mansell maar eens een keer opbellen, aangezien hij nooit officieel met pensioen is gegaan!" Kortom, Horner heeft geen problemen met het feit dat Alonso voor Renault zal gaan testen aan het einde van het seizoen.

Tja, als je denkt dat F1 groot is, kent iedereen elkaar en is F1 best een klein groepje (in de garages dan wel). Wat mij dan meer opvalt, dat er zowat geen telefoonnummers gelekt worden of, ze hebben ieder jaar een ander nummer. Ultieme Miljonairs club.

Horner zei die opmerking met enig sarcastische engelse toon, politiek correct zegt hij niets tegen, maar voorstellen Nigel Mansell uit te nodigen voor YoungDriver test is engelse manier om met overdrijven je mening verhult te geven.
