Ferrari stelt Callum Ilott aan als test-reservecoureur voor 2021

Callum Ilott is aangesteld als Ferrari-testcoureur voor 2021 na het missen van een Formule 1-racestoel bij Haas. De 22-jarige uit Cambridge, lid van de Ferrari Academy, eindigde dit jaar als tweede na Mick Schumacher in het Formule 2-kampioenschap.

Schumacher zal volgend seizoen voor Haas racen in de F1, maar hoewel het Amerikaanse team van plan was om Ilott te laten rijden in de uiteindelijk geannuleerde vrije training op de Nurburgring in oktober - toen ze hun coureursopties wilden bekijken, besloten ze uiteindelijk dat Nikita Mazepin de collega zou worden van de Duitser.

Dat liet Ilott in het ongewisse en hij zei onlangs dat hij volgend jaar niet van plan was in een andere serie te racen. Nu krijg hij echter een kans om de Ferrari te testen, die tijdens de races zal worden bestuurd door Charles Leclerc en Carlos Sainz.

"Ik ben erg blij om vanaf volgend jaar bij Ferrari te zijn als hun testrijder", zei Ilott, die sinds 2017 bij het ontwikkelingsprogramma van de Italiaanse fabrikant zit. "Ik kijk ernaar uit om bij te dragen aan het werk dat het team op en naast de baan doet, en aan alle nieuwe dingen die ik kan leren door deze spanende nieuwe uitdaging aan te gaan."

"Ik zal er alles aan doen om mijn werk goed te doen en zoveel mogelijk ervaring op te doen om als coureur vooruitgang te blijven boeken. Ik wil de Ferrari Driver Academy en Scuderia Ferrari bedanken voor deze geweldige kans en hun steun. Het was een eer om de afgelopen drie jaar deel uit te maken van hun programma en ik ben verheugd om samen onze reis voort te zetten."

Kan me er nog steeds kwaad om maken dat Mazepin wél een stoeltje heeft gekregen en Illot niet!
Illot heeft geen financiële backup, daar ligt het aan, want hij is veel beter dan Mazepin,
op en naast de baan!
Gelukkig met één been in de F1 nu en dan maar zien wat er van komt.

Illot heeft geen financiële backup, daar ligt het aan, want hij is veel beter dan Mazepin,
op en naast de baan!
Gelukkig met één been in de F1 nu en dan maar zien wat er van komt.

  Zou mij niets verbazen als Mazepin niet eens 2021 zal uitrijden om wat voor redenen dan ook. Is een hele vreemde vogel
