De Formule 1-teams hadden na de laatste race van het seizoen nog geen weekend. Ze moesten namelijk jonge coureurs de kans geven, om te kunnen testen in Abu Dhabi in een F1-bolide. Er was alleen een uitzondering gemaakt voor Fernando Alonso, voor de rest waren het toekomstige F1-coureurs, testcoureurs of F2-coureurs.

    Voor de test mogen er namelijk geen nieuwe onderdelen worden geïnstalleerd om te testen voor 2021, dus heeft Mercedes al voortijdig de onderdelen in de auto’s gestopt.
    “Mercedes is gekomen met een compromis als oplossing, zodat ze vervolgens lang kunnen testen [met de nieuwe koeling] op de enige toegestane ontwikkelingsdag”
