FIA wil techniek biobrandstof stimuleren in 2021

De FIA heeft duurzaamheid al geruime tijd hoog op de agenda staan en zal daarin nog verdere stappen nemen. In het verleden heeft de federatie al veranderingen doorgevoerd, zoals de introductie van de hybride krachtbronnen in de koningsklasse en de oprichting van een volledige elektrische openwielseries, de Formule E.

Het overkoepelende autosportorgaan heeft als doel om in 2030 volledig klimaatneutraal te zijn. De uitrol van deze plannen zijn al gestart. De impact van de autosport op klimaat en milieu moet volgens de FIA drastisch verminderd worden. De federatie heeft daarom voor al hun leden en georganiseerde kampioenschappen heldere doelen opgesteld om dat te bereiken.

1. De schadelijke uitstoot terugdringen naar nul.
2. Het gebruiken van duurzame en innovatieve oplossingen
3. Duurzaamheid promoten en stimuleren.

Een van de nieuwste veranderingen is een honderd procent duurzame brandstof, speciaal ontwikkeld voor de Formule 1. Een tweede generatie biobrandstof, bestaand uit geraffineerd biologisch afval. Op dit moment is het onderzoeksteam van de FIA deze motorbrandstof al uitgebreid aan het testen. Het autosportorgaan wil de F1-teams overtuigen en stimuleren om deze techniek ook te gaan gebruiken in combinatie met een speciaal daarvoor ontwikkelde aandrijflijn. Vanaf 2021 kunnen ook andere raceklasses van deze brandstrof gebruikmaken.

Niet zoals men een aantal jaar geleden bij de powerplants op de maasvlakte, waarbij men houtpallets (korrels) liet produceren van schoon hout uit vers gekapte bossen om mee te stoken in de kolencentrale. Waarbij het overigens voldoende was om slechts een paar % houtpallets mee te stoken om de naam biomassacentrale te mogen heten.

Mmmm, brandstof gemaakt van afval, waar heb ik dat eerder gezien, het heeft te maken met een DeLorean, maar ik kan de vinger niet op de zere plek leggen.....
