Catalaanse overheid schaart zich achter GP in Barcelona in 2021

De Catalaanse overheid heeft het licht op groen gezet voor de leiding van het Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona om een overeenkomst te sluiten met de Formule 1 over een Grand Prix voor 2021. Spanje staat nog onder voorbehoud op de kalender voor komend seizoen, in afwachting van de afronding van de contractonderhandelingen.

Officials van het circuit dat al sinds 1991 gastheer is van een Grand Prix hebben nu toestemming gekregen van de Catalaanse regering om een akkoord te bereiken met de Formule 1 over de financiële voorwaarden voor een race in 2021. De Spaanse Grand Prix staat voor komend seizoen gepland voor 9 mei.

In een verklaring staat: "De Catalaanse overheid heeft het Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona een mandaat gegeven om de verlenging van het contract met de Formule 1 voor de Grand Prix van Spanje voor 2021 te tekenen."

"De handtekening die onder dat document gaat, zorgt ervoor dat we verzekerd zijn van het 31ste opeenvolgende evenement op deze baan in Montmelo, in de buurt van Barcelona. De Grand Prix levert een aanzienlijke bijdrage aan de positie van Catalonië in de wereld van toerisme en de auto-industrie."
