Hamilton over de W11: "Een meesterwerk"

Lewis Hamilton heeft met de Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance, ook wel de W11 genoemd, zeer comfortabel het kampioenschap gewonnen. Met nog drie races te gaan kon niemand zijn punten toentertijd nog inhalen. Een meesterwerk, zo noemt hij de auto.

Waar Lewis Hamilton - die inmiddels geridderd is - eerst nog klaagde over de W10, zou de W11 in elk aspect perfect zijn geweest. Tijdens de wintertests in Barcelona merkten fotografen al gauw op dat de complete achterophanging van de W11 anders was ten opzichte van de W10. Mercedes heeft erg veel aandacht besteed aan dit gebied van de auto, en deed dit naar aanleiding van een aantal wensen van Hamilton.

Zo zou de zevenvoudig wereldkampioen hebben gevraagd naar de mogelijkheid om op lage snelheid hard in te sturen. Naar zijn mening voelde de W10 "traag en lomp" aan, maar meent dat dit probleem inmiddels compleet verholpen is.

"De W11 was een stukje kunst, en dit meesterwerk is tot in perfectie ontworpen door een grote groep mensen", aldus Lewis Hamilton. "Maar met datzelfde meesterwerk moet ik de baan op gaan en hem tot zijn limieten testen, om er vervolgens achter te komen waar de auto zich niet prettig bij voelt", zo vertelt Hamilton verder. "Die aspecten moet ik communiceren aan de juiste personen om ervoor te zorgen dat we juist in die gebieden verder kunnen ontwikkelen."

"Dat proces is elk jaar geweldig, en ik vond het toch jammer om te zien hoe ik instapte in Abu Dhabi wetende dat het de laatste keer in die wagen zou zijn", zo concludeert Hamilton.

Ook al is de wagen van volgend jaar (hoogstwaarschijnlijk de W12 genaamd) een nieuwe auto, toch zal het geen onbekend terrein zijn; elk neemt neemt veel onderdelen mee van de auto van dit jaar, aangezien er maar gelimiteerd aan delen van een wagen ontwikkeld kan worden.

Dat zegt toch ook redelijk veel over hoe de Mercedes superieur is aan de rest van het veld en dus over het gemak dat er overwinningen mee gepakt kunnen. Lewis ziet het zelf dus ook in

Je hoort ook hoe hij de wagen stuurt in de ontwikkelings richting,toen ik in het begin van het seizoen schreef dat de w11 niet werkte en op aanraden van hijzelf de achterophang liet veranderen en dat dan de auto liep als een trein ,werd er door velen smalend gelachen ,ik weet ook dat nieuwe wagen niet veel trager zal zijn dan W11 ,de laatste race reden ze met de onderbodem van 2021 en een sterk teruggeschroefde motor.De motor had geen kuren ,ze hebben de windweerstand getest op het rechtestuk want de sensoren zaten tijdens de race ook nog onder de wagen om ze de dinsdag tijdens de test ook nog te kunnen gebruiken. Daardoor gaven ze overwinning weg op zondag, In turkyereden ze ook met de onderbodem maar daar hebben ze hem er moeten onderuithalen om de WK van Lewis zeker te spelen.Dus verwacht niet veel tegenstand volgend jaar met hun nieuwe motor staan nu bijna op gelijke stand van dit jaar
