Lawrence Stroll weet het zeker: "Seizoen begint in Bahrein"

Het Formule 1-seizoen 2021 zal niet op 21 maart van start gaan in Australië. Die stellige overtuiging heeft Aston Martin-baas Lawrence Stroll. Al dagen wemelt het van de geruchten over uitstel voor de Australische Grand Prix en de organisatie van de race in Melbourne voert continu overleg met de Formule 1-leiding over het evenement.

Officieel is de Grand Prix van Australië nog niet uitgesteld, maar dat kan volgens Stroll niet lang meer duren. "Het is nog niet officieel aangekondigd, maar de Australische Grand Prix gaat niet door op 21 maart", vernam Speedweek.com van de Aston Martin-teameigenaar. "Het betreft uitstel, geen annulering. We zullen in de herfst naar Melbourne afreizen. Het seizoen begint in Bahrein."

De wereld - en dus ook de Formule 1 - is nog immer in de greep van het coronavirus en moet dus nog even door de zure appel heen bijten. Stroll vervolgt: "De komende maanden worden jammer genoeg nog moeilijk. Ik zie licht aan het einde van de tunnel nu de eerste vaccins zijn toegediend, maar het eerste deel van het nieuwe seizoen wordt ongetwijfeld een uitdaging. Ik denk wel dat we het ergste achter de rug hebben en we hebben veel geleerd over hoe we races kunnen houden met alle voorzorgsmaatregelen."

De Formule 1 zou al werken aan een alternatieve kalender voor 2021. Daarbij opent Bahrein op 28 maart het seizoen en vervolgens keert het circus terug naar Europa voor races op Imola en Portimao. Lees er hier meer over.

Het is natuurlijk ook wel volstrekt logisch.
Scheelt ook voor 1 GP naar de volledig andere kant van de wereld vliegen en die Australiers zitten niet te wachten op tig vliegtuigen vol Europeanen die vol in de 2e piek zitten en misschien de Engelse variant meenemen.

Lekker starten in Bahrein en daarna een volle kalender en zo lang mogelijk in Europa! Let's go! 20 GP's gaan we gewoon zeker weten halen. Misschien wel 1 of 2 meer!
