Daimler-topman lyrisch over F1: "Technologisch zeer relevant"

Over Daimler-baas Ola Kallenius is vaak beweerd dat hij niks moet hebben van de Formule 1, maar niets blijkt minder waar. De voorzitter van het moederbedrijf van Mercedes is juist lyrisch over de koningsklasse van de autosport en de bijdrage die de sport levert aan ontwikkelingen die toegepast kunnen worden op de straatauto's. Daar liggen voor de toekomst meer kansen.

Kallenius benadrukt tegenover Racefans.net: "Ik twijfel er niet aan dat de Formule 1 kan helpen om de doelstellingen uit het klimaatakkoord van Parijs waar te maken." De Zweed heeft zelf een tijdje op de High Performance Powertrain-afdeling van Mercedes in Brixworth gewerkt en met eigen ogen de razendsnelle ontwikkeling van met name de batterijen voor de hybride-motoren kunnen aanschouwen.

Elektrificatie is dan ook iets waar de Formule 1 mee verder moet, vindt hij. "De Formule 1 is het beste van beide werelden; de ultieme test voor nieuwe technologieën en een fantastisch en opwindend spektakel dat het merk in vervoering brengt. Het is fascinerend, het is emotie en het draait om hardcore technologie. De push voor elektrificatie en verder gaan dan we nu al doen in de Formule 1 kan onze straatauto-divisie enorm helpen. AMG gaat de hybride-technologie in onze hele vloot al een impuls geven, geïnspireerd door de Formule 1."

Brandstof

CO2-arme brandstoffen ontwikkelen is een ander speerpunt voor de Formule 1 en Mercedes voor de toekomst. Kallenius: "Onderzoek doen naar CO2-arme brandstoffen of brandstoffen zonder CO2 gaat ook een grote rol spelen. We schakelen namelijk wel steeds meer over op elektrische auto's, maar dan nog hou je in eerste instantie honderden miljoenen of miljarden auto's over die op brandstof rijden. Daarom moeten we blijven werken aan minder CO2-uitstoot, ook voor die wagens."

"De Formule 1 kan een belangrijke rol vertolken door te experimenteren met CO2-arme brandstoffen. Technologisch is deze sport nog zeer relevant. Het is geen sport van het verleden, maar een sport voor de toekomst", aldus de Zweed.

Klinkt mij heel erg als een Hammie verhaaltje dit. Dus nu lijkt Ola ook al voor Hamilton te kruipen........
Wanneer komt Mercedes er nu eens achter dat ze niet afhankelijk zijn van Hamilton?????? 😩😩😩😩

Of zie ik nu iets over het hoofd?

  Afhankelijk? Nee zeker niet.
  Maar laten we niet vergeten dat Hamilton wel een groot deel van de ontwikkeling gepusht heeft. Enkele seizoenen geleden de voorvleugel, sindsdien zijn ze ook in de bochten snel. Afgelopen seizoen: Andere wielophanging achter, om te zorgen dat de Merc niet meer de turnradius van een baksteen heeft.
  Dit in combinatie met de belachelijk krachtige motor, waardoor Mercedes met veel meer vleugel kan rijden. Maakt ze onverslaanbaar.
  Daarbij komt ook dat Hamilton vaak net dat beetje extra eruit kan persen.
  Rosberg heeft na zijn kampioenschap niet voor niets de handdoek in de ring gegooid, het vergde mentaal/privé enorm veel om zijn doel te halen. Hamilton speelt de spelletjes niet alleen op het circuit, maar ook erbuiten. En het lijkt erop dat er maar weinig tegen bestand zijn.

  Ik twijfel echt of Hamilton zo'n goede ontwikkelaar is gezien zijn hekel aan testen en aan het in de simulator zitten. Denk dat hij gewoon een heel goed team achter zicht heeft. Ook zijn leven naast de F1 wijst hierop volgens mij. Hij is gewoon een goede racer (zoals zovele).
  En je hebt inderdaad gelijk dat hij 'iets extra's heeft'.......maar dit is enkel ten opzichte van zijn teammaat te vergelijken. En ik geloof echt niet dat Bottas en Rosberg nu zulke toppers zijn/waren.
  Ik ben erg kritisch op hem (dat weet ik) maar de enige erg indrukwekkende prestatie van hem vond ik dat hij in zijn eerste jaar in de F1 bijna wereldkampioen werd, en zijn enige ECHT goede teammaat (Alonso) heeft verslagen!! Daarna zijn zijn teammaten maar zeer middelmatige coureurs geweest.
