Ook Grand Prix van China staat op losse schroeven, uitstel is aangevraagd

Nadat de openingsrace in Australië al is verplaatst vanwege de pandemie, lijkt de Grand Prix van China het volgende slachtoffer te worden. De promoter van het evenement heeft uitstel gevraagd aan de FIA en hoopt op een nieuwe datum in de tweede helft van het seizoen.

De Formule 1-organisatie presenteerde in november met trots de kalender voor 2021. Vol goede hoop werd het nieuwe jaar ingeluid, maar twee maanden na de bekendmaking moeten de noodscenario's weer van de plank gehaald worden. Net als vorig jaar kan het gebeuren dat circuits van de kalender verdwijnen en worden vervangen door andere locaties - die normaliter niet in aanmerking komen voor een Grand Prix.

Vorig jaar werd er onder andere uit nood geracet op Mugello en in Portimao, terwijl de Grands Prix in Nederland en Vietnam geen doorgang kon vinden. Vooralsnog zijn er geen geluiden dat race in de Hollandse duinen geannuleerd wordt. Die wedstrijd staat gepland begin september.
