Claire Williams was 'geld bij elkaar schrapen' helemaal zat

De financiële zorgen van het team van Williams hebben Claire Williams uiteindelijk opgebroken. In gesprek met The New York Times noemt de Britse dat als de voornaamste reden dat ze de renstal in de verkoop heeft gedaan. Investeringsmaatschappij Dorilton Capital verloste de familie Williams in de loop van vorig seizoen van het Formule 1-team.

Dat zal ongetwijfeld pijn gedaan hebben, zeker voor oprichter Frank Williams, maar zijn dochter Claire zag geen andere uitweg meer. "Ik was er echt helemaal klaar mee. We moesten steeds het geld bij elkaar schrapen en zo konden we ons werk gewoon niet doen en dat is ontzettend frustrerend", liet ze aan de Amerikaanse krant weten.

De breuk met titelsponsor ROKiT in de aanloop naar het seizoen 2020 gaf het beslissende zetje. "En vervolgens kwam corona eroverheen en toen moesten we wel op zoek gaan naar een investeerder", aldus Claire Williams. "We hadden geen andere keuze, het moest wel. Het team en de mensen die voor Williams werken moesten gered worden."

Dorilton Capital

Over de nieuwe eigenaren van Williams is weinig bekend. Dorilton Capital is een Amerikaanse investeringsmaatschappij en treedt niet op de voorgrond. Claire Williams: "Ik wist dat ze hele diepe zakken hadden en ze waren bereid om er veel geld in te steken zodat Williams in de toekomst weer kan vechten voor overwinningen en kampioenschappen."

Dorilton gaat echter niet aarzelen weer te verkopen.

Eens het wat beter gaat met Williams, lees als het team weer in een remonte zit, zullen er wel gegadigden komen. En dan is het nog maar de vraag wat er met "Williams" gaat gebeuren.

Vroeg of laat zal de naam Williams helaas gaan verdwijnen...

  Fijn dat jij je mening blijkbaar op onwaarheden hebt gebaseerd ;)
  
  Dorilton is geen investeringsmaatschappij dat werkt volgens het principe; kopen, snoeien, bloeien, verkopen. Oftewel het principe van pure winst met minimale investeringen.
  Alle grote investeringen die Dorilton in het verleden gedaan hebben, maken nog steeds onderdeel uit van het portfolio van Dorilton. Dus in geenszins is het een bedrijf wat enkel Williams gekocht heeft om zo snel mogelijk voor zoveel mogelijk weer van de hand te doen.

  @Beri je hebt natuurlijk slechte maar ook minder slechte investeerders, maar de eerste filantroop in die sector moet echt nog geboren worden hoor.
  Als Williams echt niets interessants oplevert, dan zijn ze toch echt snel het haasje.

Williams heeft met Russel goud in huis. Als ze doen wat RP deed en wat meer overnemen van Mercedes, dan was al die stress helemaal niet nodig.

  @Commando Als Williams had gedaan wat RP deed, ipv koppig vasthouden aan eigen ontwerpen, dan had Russel allang podiums gehad vorig jaar, en dan stonden de sponsors in de rij.
  Geen vuiltje aan de lucht geweest voor lieve Claire.
  Nu is het familie bedrijf in Amerikaanse handen, en je weet hoe die daar doorgaans mee omgaan.

Eerst ROKiT aan de deuren zetten en dan klagen over geld tekort, als, ik mij niet vergis was de samenwerking stopgezet omdat dit invloed had op de verdere plannen van Williams (of iets in die richting).
Waren die plannen dan al een eventuele verkoop.

  Ja joh, ze lullen maar met de wind mee. Rokit zou inderdaad zijn stopgezet als hoofdsponsor om het team zo aantrekkelijk mogelijk te maken voor ee kopende partij (of woorden van die strekking) en nu is het opeens dat omdat Rokit wegging ze naar meer geld moesten zoeken??
