Nieuwe Williams CEO: "Ik verwacht geen wonderen, maar kunnen niet minder dan 0 punten scoren"

Frank en Claire Williams hebben aan het einde van het 2020-seizoen aangegeven dat zij afstand zullen nemen van het Williams team. Jost Capito - die al zo'n 40 jaar actief is in de motorsport - is aangewezen als nieuwe CEO van het team. Deze positie is aangewezen door Simon Roberts, hoofd van Dorilton Capital, die het team vorig jaar heeft gekocht.

"Met een nieuw begin en met nieuwe eigenaren heb je de mogelijkheid om te herstructureren", zo vertelt Capito in de Alte Schule-podcast. "Dat is nu belangrijk om te doen, want minder dan nul punten kunnen we niet gaan scoren."

"Voor het 2021-seizoen kunnen we geen wonderen verwachten, want we kunnen weinig aan de auto veranderen", zo vertelt Capito verder. "Maar door het coronavirus zitten alle teams in hetzelfde schuitje; die kunnen ook weinig veranderen aan de wagen."

"Zonder development freeze zou het budget voor de kleine teams nog kleiner worden", zo vertelt Capito verder. "Want de grote teams kunnen de gevolgen van het coronavirus veel beter overzien. Het gat zou dan nóg veel groter worden, dus we staan nu niet in een positie om te klagen", zo concludeert Capito.
