Talent Thomas ten Brinke vervolgt carrière in Formule Renault

Thomas ten Brinke is iemand om de komende jaren goed in de gaten te houden. De pas 15-jarige Nederlander maakt een stormachtige ontwikkeling door. Nog maar een paar maanden geleden verruilde hij de karting voor de autosport, door voor MP Motorsport te racen in de Formule 4. Nu heeft hij zich voor 2021 verzekerd van een fulltime zitje bij ART Grand Prix voor de Formule Renault.

Ten Brinke, de zoon van rallyrijder Bernhard ten Brinke, kroonde zich in 2019 tot wereldkampioen karting bij de junioren. Vorig jaar kwam hij vijf raceweekenden voor MP Motorsport uit in het Spaanse Formule 4-kampioenschap. Hij verbaasde vriend en vijand door zich als tweede voor zijn allereerste race te kwalificeren. In totaal finishte hij dertien van de vijftien races waaraan hij deelnam in de top vier, waaronder negen podiumplekken inclusief een overwinning in Barcelona.

Nu zet hij de volgende stap in het Europees Formule Regional-kampioenschap, een voortvloeisel uit het samengaan tussen de Formule Renault Eurocup en de Formule Regional. Ten Brinke: "Ik moet toegeven dat het snel gaat, heel snel. Een paar maanden geleden reed ik nog in de karts en kreeg ik de kans om mee te doen in de Formule 4 in Spanje. Nu ben ik alweer toe aan een nieuw hoofdstuk. Dankzij de steun van mijn vader en mijn sponsors kan ik mijn ambitie en droom realiseren. Maar dit is slechts het begin…"

  Fijn dat het hossende volk straks weer iemand heeft om op het schild te hijsen als Max zodadelijk wordt afgedankt (als blijkt dat hij ook maar een normale sterveling is geen glitters en regenbogen blijkt te schijten).
  
  Of misschien blijkt wel dat Ten Brinke niet tot de absolute top behoort; dan wordt hij uiteraard weggezet als een totale loser, want Wij zijn immers een volk van winnaars. Dat Ten Brinke zich momenteel al keurig staande houdt in wagens die harder gaan dan die van Fangio, is in dit verband een niet ter zake doend detail.
