'Sauber geeft toch de voorkeur aan Ferrari boven Renault'

Het team van Sauber/Alfa Romeo zou op het punt staan om het contract met motorleverancier Ferrari tot eind 2025 te verlengen. Dat bericht brengen onder meer Autosport.com en het Duitse RTL. Er gingen juist geruchten dat Sauber overwoog om na dit jaar de handen ineen te slaan met Renault, maar de voorkeur lijkt nu toch uit te gaan naar Ferrari.

Volgens de Italiaanse krant Corriere della Sera is het nog geen uitgemaakte zaak. Sauber weegt alle opties nog af en is benaderd door Renault, schrijft verslaggever Daniele Sparisci. "Renault heeft toenaderingspogingen ondernomen en Sauber evalueert nu alle mogelijkheden."

"De Formule 1-uitbreiding van Renault onder leiding van directeur Luca de Meo bestaat er onder meer uit dat ze weer een klantenteam willen. Daar hebben ze financieel en politiek gezien veel aan en het kan dienen als een renstal om jonge talenten te stallen."

"De samenwerking met Ferrari staat dus onder druk, maar in Maranello zijn ze er zeker van dat de alliantie met de Zwitserse renstal voortgezet wordt onder de nieuwe reglementen. Echter, de relatie tussen Ferrari en Sauber-teambaas Frederic Vasseur is niet heel warm, terwijl er met Günther Steiner van Haas F1 Team sprake is van ware harmonie", aldus Sparisci.

Mocht Sauber voor Ferrari kiezen, dan ligt een verlenging van de sponsoring door Alfa Romeo voor de hand. Stellantis, het fusiebedrijf waar het merk Alfa Romeo tegenwoordig onder valt, vertegenwoordigt echter veertien merken in totaal en zou er ook voor kunnen kiezen om een andere naam als uithangbord naar voren te schuiven - bijvoorbeeld Maserati.

Met je eens, zeker als je dan ook van die GIO af kunt komen. Want die zit er door Ferrari, maar presteert geen ruk. Trouwens, dump RAI nou ook eens een keertje want die is geen schim meer van wat hij ooit was.

Zijn die Ferrari motoren niet veel duurder? Ik zou misschien toch wel Renault overwegen en het geld dat je dan bespaard lekker in de auto stoppen.

Renault begint nu toch serieus aan de deuren van de top te kloppen en hebben dit jaar laten zien in hun eigen tram en bij McLaren dat ze serieus snel zijn. Ferrari daarentegen geeft al aan dat ze 2021 al als een ‘verloren’ seizoen beschouwen en roepen de fans op om niet teveel van ze te verwachten. Daarnaast is het nog maar de vraag of de 2022 PU en daarna wel weer een goede snelheid zullen hebben. Kortom, ik zou als Sauber zijnde toch nog eens goed nadenken.... blijven bij de leverancier die je al kent, maar daar het 3e team zijn en wetende dat de PU sowieso het komende jaar nog snelheid mist of overstappen naar de concurrent die bewezen betrouwbaar is, redelijk snel en heel graag een klantenteam wil om daarin te investeren en samen mee te ontwikkelen

  Haha, subtiel als altijd. Sauber heeft aangegeven blij te zijn met de input van Raikkonen en daarbij rijdt hij met zichtbaar plezier rond en hij behoort nog met gemak tot de beste 50% van het veld.
  
  En Giovinazzi krijgt van de meeste mensen hier het nadeel van de twijfel vanwege de grote zichtbaarheid van zijn blunders, maar hij ontwikkelt zich wel stilletjes tot een degelijk coureur. Een WK zal hij waarschijnlijk niet worden, maar een betrouwbare tweede man op termijn waarschijnlijk wel.

  @Rogier Zzz: GIO is 27 en met zijn ontwikkeltempo is hij ergens achterin de 30 voordat hij een fatsoenlijke F1-rijder is. En hoezeer ik RAI ook waardeer, aan 'met plezier rondrijden' heb je als team niets.

  Ik vind ook als een van de weinige gat Gio na behoren doet.
  Ook Kimi mag nog wel een paar jaar blijven.
  Maar ik zou ook kiezen voor Renault.

  Ik ben met je eens dat het een laatbloeier is, maar daar staat tegenover dat ik het liefst eind twintigers/begin dertigers bij Ferrari zie. Als hij van zijn 30ste tot 33ste goed genoeg is om de nummer 2 te zijn, is het wat mij betreft prima.
