Alpha Tauri laat debutant Yuki Tsunoda extra kilometers maken

Scuderia Alpha Tauri is van plan om twee extra testsessies in te plannen zodat rookie Yuki Tsunoda extra vlieguren kan maken op weg naar zijn debuutseizoen in de Formule 1. De Japanner testte in november voor het eerst voor het opleidingsteam van Red Bull en kwam in december ook in actie tijdens de Young Drivers-test in Abu Dhabi.

Op weg naar het seizoen 2021 komt daar sowieso nog de wintertest van 12 tot en met 14 maart in Bahrein bovenop, maar daar blijft het volgens Autosport.com niet bij. Alpha Tauri koestert plannen om nog twee keer te testen op Imola - op 27 en 28 januari en van 23 tot en met 25 februari. De tweedaagse test later deze maand zal met een oude auto plaatsvinden.

De driedaagse test van volgende maand is wederom met een minstens twee jaar oude wagen, maar ook met de nieuwe bolide. Alpha Tauri wil dan namelijk ook een filmdag met de auto voor 2021 afwerken. Met deze extra testdagen hoopt het team Tsunoda optimaal te kunnen prepareren voor zijn eerste jaar in de koningsklasse van de autosport.

De mogelijkheid bestaat dat ook Pierre Gasly in actie zal komen tijdens de twee extra tests, om de Fransman ritme op te laten doen en Tsunoda vergelijkingsmateriaal en een mikpunt te geven. De sessies zijn echter voornamelijk bedoeld om de Japanner meer ervaring op te laten doen.

Misschien heeft men bij AT de nieuwe voorschriften m.b.t. het vloerontwerp niet helemaal goed begrepen en zijn ze iets te enthousiast geweest met het (rigoureus) reduceren van de downforce van de vloer ;-)
