Pierre Gasly over nieuwe teamgenoot: "Yuki Tsunoda is een leuke kerel"

Pierre Gasly heeft volgend seizoen een nieuwe teamgenoot bij AlphaTauri. Yuki Tsunoda maakt zijn debuut in de Formule 1 en de verwachtingen voor de Japanse coureur zijn hooggespannen. Behalve dat Gasly en Tsunoda volgend seizoen teamgenoten zijn, is er nog iets dat de twee coureurs met elkaar verbindt.

In het seizoen 2020 ontving Tsunoda de Anthoine Hubert Award voor beste rookie in de Formule 2. Een prijs genoemd naar de coureur en beste vriend van Gasly die in 2019 overleed tijdens een megacrash op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps.

Tsunoda noemde Hubert een inspiratiebron tijdens de ceremonie. Voor Gasly was het leuk om Tsunoda zo over Hubert te horen praten. "Ik kende Anthoine heel goed en ik ben erg blij en trots als hij op de één of andere manier anderen inspireerde. Hij was een goede vriend van mij en het voelt nog steeds heel raar om zo over hem te praten en te weten dat hij er niet meer is. Ik ben daar nog steeds niet erg aan gewend, maar Yuki heeft natuurlijk een paar mooie woorden gezegd", zei de Fransman.

Gasly is in ieder geval blij met zijn nieuwe teamgenoot. "Hij is een leuke kerel." Gasly is ook erg te spreken over de prestatie van Tsunoda. "Ik denk dat hij het heel goed heeft gedaan in de Formule 2. Hij heeft een paar races gewonnen, ik heb hem op pole position zien staan."

"Hij heeft een paar keer belangrijke punten verloren die hem nog hoger hadden kunnen eindigen in het kampioenschap. Soms heb je er geen controle over, maar over het algemeen heeft hij het heel goed gedaan."

Ik denk dat ze daar bij AlphaTauri aan die twee 'n goed rijders koppel hebben. Pierre heeft het al bewezen en nu is het de beurt aan Yuki om het te laten zien.
