Jeffrey Herlings namens Red Bull Racing in virtuele Grand Prix

De Formule 1 start aanstaande zondag weer met een virtueel kampioenschap als opwarmertje richting het echte werk. De koningsklasse van de autosport heeft een concept bedacht met een drietal virtuele Grands Prix, waarbij 100.000 dollar voor het goede doel op het spel staat. De races vinden plaats op achtereenvolgens de Red Bull Ring, Silverstone en Interlagos.

Komende zondag dus eerst de Red Bull Ring. Een sprintrace waarin de professionele Esports-coureurs van de teams in actie komen bepaalt de startvolgorde voor de hoofdrace, waarin echte rijders en beroemdheden de honneurs waarnemen. Voor Williams zullen bijvoorbeeld reguliere coureurs George Russell en Nicholas Latifi aan de start van de hoofdrace verschijnen.

Namens Red Bull Racing zal een Nederlander meedoen, maar het is niet Max Verstappen. Het gaat om motorcrosser Jeffrey Herlings. Hij krijgt gezelschap van Alexander Albon, die komend seizoen in de DTM te bewonderen is. Andere reeds bevestigde namen zijn Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes), Arthur Leclerc en Marcus Armstrong (Ferrari), Christian Lundgaard en Oscar Piastri (Alpine), Pietro en Enzo Fittipaldi (Haas F1 Team) en Thibaut Courtois (Alfa Romeo).
