Grosjean ziet glansrol weggelegd voor Perez bij Red Bull Racing

Oud Formule 1-coureur Romain Grosjean denkt dat zijn voormalige collega Sergio Perez komend seizoen de show gaat stelen bij Red Bull Racing. Na jaren bij subtopper Force India/Racing Point krijgt de Mexicaan eindelijk (weer) een kans bij een topteam, hoewel hij in 2013 al eens voor McLaren reed. De Perez van nu is echter op geen enkele manier te vergelijken met de Perez van toen.

Grosjean voorziet dan ook dat er in 2021 een glansrol voor Perez weggelegd zal zijn bij Red Bull Racing. Aan Autosprint deelde de Fransman mede: "Ik ben blij dat Sergio deze kans krijgt en ik heb er alle vertrouwen in dat hij het goed gaat doen bij een topteam. Dit is zijn tweede kans nadat hij eerder voor McLaren uitkwam, maar de situatie is compleet anders en hij beschikt over veel meer ervaring. Sergio is klaar om de koe bij de horens te vatten bij Red Bull Racing."

Het komt in de Formule 1 allemaal aan op het materiaal, benadrukt Grosjean. "Om te winnen in de Formule 1 heb je de beste auto nodig. De twintig coureurs zijn allemaal van topniveau. Natuurlijk zijn er verschillen, maar die zijn minimaal. Zodra je Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc of George Russell het beste materiaal geeft, kunnen zij ook wat Lewis Hamilton kan. Zet Hamilton in een auto van Haas F1, dan speelt ook hij weinig klaar. Wat dat betreft was het optreden van Russell in Sakhir het perfecte voorbeeld van hoeveel verschil de auto maakt."

De verwachting is dat Grosjean een dezer dagen bekend zal maken dat hij komend seizoen voor Dale Coyne Racing in de IndyCar Series gaat rijden.

Na ja, Perez lijkt me een uitstekende keuze maar die is niet beter dan een Ricciardo, dus ik denk dat er verder niet al teveel verandert , hooguit dat RB nu weer wat meer puntjes kan sprokkelen en Perez iets meer druk op de Mercs kan zetten... Altijd dezelfde slappe excuses voor zijn eigen dramatisch slechte presteren bij HAAS laatste jaren.

Zet Lewis of Max bij HAAS en dan hadden die 2x zo veel punten gehaald als GJ en zo nu en dan misschien zelfs een podium gepakt.
