Formule 1 dringt niet voor in vaccinatiecampagne tegen corona

De Formule 1 koestert geen plannen om de hand te leggen op een aantal coronavaccins om te beginnen met het inenten van de personen in de paddock, zodat het seizoen zonder problemen afgewerkt kan worden. Dat is absoluut niet aan de orde, benadrukte directeur Stefano Domenicali. Alle beschikbare vaccins gaan op dit moment naar landen wereldwijd.

Daar is de nood voor vaccinatie het hoogst om de kwetsbare personen te beschermen. Hoewel de pandemie ook de Formule 1 hindert, kent de koningsklasse van de autosport zijn plek. "Dat is een belangrijk punt. De prioriteit gaat nu uit naar de ouderen, de kwetsbaren en de mensen die werkzaam zijn in de zorg. De Formule 1 gaat niet voordringen in de rij voor vaccins", aldus Domenicali.

De Australische Grand Prix is reeds uitgesteld en de Chinese Grand Prix heeft genoegen moeten nemen met een plek op de reservelijst, dus de impact op de Formule 1-kalender is ook groot. Toch wil Domenicali niets weten van een versneld vaccinatieprogramma. "We moeten verstandig en voorzichtig zijn. Het is zaak om te kijken wie de vaccins het hardst nodig hebben, dat zijn de kwetsbare groepen. We willen niet te boek staan als degene die vaccins voor de neus van een ander wegkaapt."
