Barcelona start volgende week met kaartverkoop voor Spaanse Grand Prix

Het Circuit de Catalunya nabij Barcelona is van plan om publiek toe te laten bij de Grand Prix van Spanje van dit jaar. Volgende week start de kaartverkoop voor het raceweekend van 7 tot en met 9 mei, met tickets tegen de helft van de prijs, vaste zitplekken op tribunes om social distancing in acht te nemen en een beperkte capaciteit die de helft bedraagt van de normale capaciteit.

Josep Lluis Santamaria, baas van het Circuit de Catalunya, legde aan Diario Sport uit: "De mensen willen weer iets normaals in hun leven en dus hebben we besloten om onze tribunes voor de Grand Prix open te stellen, onder strikte veiligheidsmaatregelen uiteraard. We treffen ook maatregelen voor de toegang en het parkeren. Het valt te bezien welke mobiliteitsrestricties van kracht blijven in Europa. Als de Grand Prix niet door kan gaan, vergoeden we de gekochte tickets volledig."

Ondertussen voert hij onderhandelingen met Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media over een nieuw contract, aangezien de huidige verbintenis van Barcelona voor de Spaanse Grand Prix alleen dit jaar geldt. "We zetten in op een contract voor langere termijn, minstens vijf jaar", aldus Santamaria. "We kunnen niet de benodigde investeringen doen als we steeds eenjarige contracten met de Formule 1 sluiten en niet verzekerd zijn van enige continuïteit."

Ik denk dat elk circuit 'van plan is' publiek toe te laten. Het zijn geen liefdadigheidsinstellingen natuurlijk. Alleen beslist de organisatie van een circuit dat niet. Zelfde verhaal in Monaco. Je kan nu wel gaan roepen dat er publiek bij zal zijn, maar je weet nog niets op dit moment. Afwachten jongens.
