Hedendaags is het een vrij vastgesteld pad wat bewandeld moet worden om in de koningsklasse van de autosport terecht te komen. Eerst dien je dominant te zijn in de kart-klassen, daarna moet je relatief snel door de kleinere single seater-klassen komen, waarna je in de Formule 2 één van de beste moet zijn. Echter, vroeger was dit wel anders.

Vroeger was het redelijk normaal dat een Formule 1-coureur voordat hij in de auto stapte werkzaam was in een compleet andere branche. In de video hieronder worden de tien meest maffe carrières die F1-coureurs hebben gehad laten zien.
