Chicane verdwijnt definitief uit de lay-out van Albert Park

De Australian Grand Prix Corporation zet door met de plannen om het circuit van Albert Park grondig onder handen te nemen voor de eerstvolgende Grand Prix van Australië, gepland voor 21 november. De meest opvallende verandering aan de baan in Melbourne is het feit dat de chicane van bochten 9 en 10 definitief uit de lay-out verdwijnt.

In plaats daarvan komt een vloeiend gedeelde die de coureurs makkelijk volgas kunnen nemen, waardoor de rijders na bocht 6 tot aan bocht 11 het gaspedaal volledig kunnen indrukken. Dat is echter niet de enige aanpassing aan het circuit. Zo zal de Australian Grand Prix Corporation bochten 1 en 6 verbreden om daar verschillende racelijnen mogelijk te maken.

Tot slot is het de bedoeling om de negatieve hellingshoek in bocht 13 van 2 procent - de bocht helt dus over naar buiten - om te zetten in een positieve banking van 5 procent, waardoor je dus een soort kombochtje krijgt. Dit alles moet ervoor zorgen dat rijders elkaar makkelijker kunnen volgen en meer mogelijkheden krijgen om elkaar met aanvallen te bestoken.

De pitstraat is reeds twee meter breder gemaakt, waardoor het strookje gras tussen de baan en de pitmuur aan de rechterkant is verdwenen. De nieuwe werkzaamheden beginnen maandag en duren tot in juli. Na de Australische Grand Prix van dit jaar zal de organisatie ook een nieuwe asfaltlaag aanbrengen op het circuit. De baan in Albert Park is sinds de aanleg in 1995 niet meer opnieuw geasfalteerd.

Gewoon stom. Men kan elkaar niet volgen door de snelle chicane dus de aanval wordt niet opgezocht. Die snelle chicane moet langzamer en meer als bocht 1,2,3 Bahrein. Een klein stukje van de heuvel in het park terug claimen en het is gepiept.

  Inderdaad, van de huidige bocht 11+12 een langzame chicane zoals in Monza maken lijkt een betere oplossing, zeker nu ze de langzame bochten 9 en 10 eruit halen, dan creëer je nog een inhaalmogelijkheid.
