Voorstadje van Madrid koestert ambities voor bouw F1-circuit

Ayuntamiento de Morata de Tajuna, een plaatsje iets ten zuidoosten van de Spaanse hoofdstad Madrid, wil een Formule 1-waardig circuit laten bouwen. De lokale overheid heeft de plannen voor de komst van een multifunctionele baan inmiddels reeds goedgekeurd. Hiermee hoopt Morata de Tajuna, dat 12 miljoen euro bijdraagt aan de realisatie, op termijn een gooi te kunnen doen naar de organisatie van Formule 1- en MotoGP-races.

De te bouwen baan komt op braakliggend terrein nabij het 8.000 inwoners tellende plaatsje en moet 4,5 kilometer lang worden. Het Circuito de Morata zou plaats moeten bieden aan zo'n 80.000 fans. Ook staan er een hotel, een museum en een kartbaan in de bouwplannen. In de video van de gemeente is te zien dat het gebied licht glooit, in het ontwerp zit ook een bocht die valt te omschrijven als een omgekeerde versie van de beroemde bocht 8 op Istanbul Park.

"Het idee is om het circuit 280 dagen per jaar in gebruik te nemen, niet alleen voor auto- en motorsportevenementen maar ook bijvoorbeeld concerten in de zomer”, aldus Angel Sanchez, de burgemeester van Morata de Tajuna in Spaanse media. Hij verwacht weinig problemen met de benodigde vergunningen. "Ik denk niet dat het heel moeilijk zal zijn om alles rond te krijgen, het circuit komt op een braakliggend terrein te liggen, daar gebeurt verder niets."

Het is een nieuwe poging van Madrid om de Formule 1 af te snoepen van Barcelona. Het verouderde circuit van Jarama biedt geen uitzicht op een eventuele Grand Prix en heeft weinig perspectief. Om het jaarlijkse Formule 1-evenement weg te kapen bij Barcelona heeft Madrid dan ook een gloednieuwe baan nodig. Met Morata de Tajuna heeft de Spaanse hoofdstad in ieder geval weer een mogelijke ijzer in het vuur. Het circuit moet over vijf jaar gereed zijn.

Best een geinige layout. Doet me denken aan Vallencia. Ook alles heel compact op elkaar alsof het in een doos moest passen. Persoonlijk ben ik de enorm lange straten met een hairpin van Tilke wel een beetje zat bij elk nieuwe ontwerp van hem. Motorland Aragon vind ik zijn beste creatie van de afgelopen jaren maar dat is ook alweer een behoorlijk tijdje terug

  Dat is de voornaamste reden voor dit idee, gok ik.

Jarama is inderdaad niet F1 waardig heb er wel eens een paar rondjes gereden.

En verder wens ik ze veel plezier daar in Spanje, ruimte genoeg en waarom niet nog een circuit erbij, daar komen ze in ieder geval niet tekort aan.

Een geinige baan om zo te zien, maar ik wederom een 'Turkije bocht 8', 'Suzuka s'en' of 'Silverstone Maggots and Becketts', gecombineerd met lange rechte stukken en wat hairpins. Het zou fijn zijn als men gewoon weer eens een ondergrond vindt met goede hoogteverschillen waardoor het landschap de lijnen van het circuit zal dicteren. Dat eindeloze kopiëren en plakken wat wat mooie bochten van klassieke circuits begint best eentonig en armoedig te worden.
