Motorleveranciers ontvangen 200 liter biobrandstof om te testen

De internationale autosportbond FIA heeft de vier in de Formule 1 actieve autofabrikanten voorzien van 200 liter biobrandstof. De bedoeling is nu dat Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault en ook Honda deze brandstof gaan testen in hun testbanken. De opgedane kennis en data wordt vervolgens doorgespeeld naar de FIA, die op zijn beurt het beleid met het oog op de toekomst mede op de testresultaten baseert.

Gilles Simon fungeert als motorenchef binnen de FIA. Hij legde aan Auto Motor und Sport uit wat de belangrijkste bestandsdelen van de nieuwe biobrandstof zijn. "Biologisch afval vormt de basis. Daar voegen we 20 procent ethanol, eveneens afkomstig uit landbouwafval, aan toe. Om de kwaliteit van de brandstof te verbeteren doen we daar nog een speciaal soort tolueen bij, die ook geproduceerd is van afval en restproducten."

Dit alles om een hoog octaangehalte te bereiken. Voor Formule 1-motoren moet het octaangehalte van brandstof tussen de 102 en 104 bedragen. De klassieke biobrandstoffen op basis van waterstof en CO2 hebben vooralsnog moeite om een octaangehalte van 95 te halen, vandaar dat die brandstoffen geen optie waren voor de Formule 1.

De FIA heeft ook Honda de beschikking gegeven over de te testen biobrandstof, ook al stapt de Japanse autofabrikant na dit jaar uit de Formule 1. De internationale autosportbond is echter van mening dat elk beetje extra informatie van waarde is om een betere biobrandstof te ontwikkelen en dat Honda daar dus nog een rol in kan spelen. Het Japanse merk werkt overigens graag mee aan deze test.

  Idd best slordig. Het octaangetal staat voor 'klopvastheid' van de brandstof. Oftewel hoe hoger het getal, hoe minder kans op zelfontbranding. En daarmee is in de praktijk dan een hogere compressie en temperatuur mogelijk.

Tja, alle motorfabrikanten krijgen Bio inclusief Honda en alle data gaat naar de Fiararri. Dan weet je wel hoe de vlag er bij hangt. Is op zich ook vreemd want naar mijn idee moet je voor een volledig biobrandstof toch een wat andere motor bouwen inclusief bij behorende software en dergelijke. Of de FIA heeft deze kennis niet zelf in huis, of ze proberen Honda toch nog te paaien en last but not least er is een crimson die 's nachts in de data wil kijken

Ik denk dat de meeste motorbouwers al dergelijke brandstof aan het testen zijn van hun eigen leverancier.

Er is voor de personenauto s en vrachtauto s iig al gewoon biobrandstof verkrijgbaar,het is een vervanger voor diesel,het heet HVO 100 en je motor hoeft er niet voor omgebouwd te worden ofzo.
K weet natuurlijk niet hoe dat met F1 motoren zit🤔
