Formule 1 duikt diep in de rode cijfers met 444 miljoen verlies

De Formule 1 heeft vorig jaar een verlies van 444 miljoen dollar geleden, blijkt uit de jaarcijfers die eigenaar Liberty Media heeft gepubliceerd. De omzet van de koningsklasse van de autosport kelderde van dik 2 miljard dollar naar 1,1 miljard dollar. Het negatieve resultaat is voor een groot deel toe te schrijven aan de uitbraak van het coronavirus.

Vanwege de pandemie werd de start van het seizoen maanden uitgesteld en de jaargang uiteindelijk ingekort naar zeventien races. Minder wedstrijden betekent voor de Formule 1 ook minder inkomsten. De promotors van de Grands Prix betalen normaal gesproken namelijk een fors bedrag om de koningsklasse van de autosport te ontvangen.

Dat verdienen ze vervolgens onder andere terug door kaartjes aan fans te verkopen, maar vorig jaar mocht er geen publiek aanwezig zijn bij de races. De promotors zagen het dan ook niet zitten om wel hun torenhoge kosten aan de Formule 1 door te laten lopen, iets waar de sport hen in tegemoet is gekomen door middel van een lager prijskaartje of uitstel van het evenement en dus ook de betaling.

Daarnaast daalden de televisiegelden omdat de zenders minder Grands Prix konden uitzenden dan hen bij het afsluiten van het contract of voorafgaand aan het seizoen was toegezegd. Ook de sponsorinkomsten gingen omlaag omdat de Formule 1 niet de service en het platform kon bieden dat de geldschieters beloofd was.

Waarom lopen bedijven e.d. toch altijd zo te klagen als het even wat minder gaat.
Als ze jaren achtereen bakken met geld verdienen hoor je ze ook niet.

Volgend jaar rond deze tijd, zal het verlies nog hoger zijn, misschien hebben ze het dan wel verkocht dat is toch wat ze uiteindelijk willen.

Om dit aan 't virus toe te schrijven lijkt me een te gemakkelijke verklaring. Mooi voor de aandeelhouders
maar ik heb toch de indruk dat er (bij het grote publiek) gaandeweg minder interesse is in F1.. In de lage landen zal het wel een ander verhaal zijn (ja hoor, ook de Belgen zien Max graag racen) maar onze twee kleine apelandjes maken weinig verschil...
Wees eerlijk voor jezelf, ... Als Max ons niet vertegenwoordigde in deze tak, wie keek er dan nog? .... Ikzelf ben de sport beginnen volgen in 1979 maar met de dood van Senna, haakte ik af.. Ben terug beginnen kijken toen Max in de picture kwam. En nee, ik zet de tv niet uit als Max uitvalt.. Ben in de eerste plaats nog steeds een fan van de sport..
