Raikkonen in verband gebracht met Le Mans-project van Ferrari

Kimi Raikkonen zou na zijn Formule 1-carrière de overstap naar de lange afstands-racerij kunnen maken. De Fin is in verband gebracht met het Le Mans Hypercar-project van Ferrari. De Italiaanse autofabrikant ontwikkelt momenteel een bolide om in 2023 tot de koningsklasse van het World Endurance Championship toe te treden en neemt Raikkonen wellicht mee.

Ferrari heeft nog geen namen van coureurs bekendgemaakt, maar wendt zich mogelijk tot oude bekende Raikkonen. De 41-jarige Fin reed van 2007 tot en met 2009 en van 2014 tot en met 2018 voor de Scuderia in de Formule 1. Samen veroverden ze in 2007 de wereldtitel.

In een ver verleden heeft Raikkonen al eens laten blijken geïnteresseerd te zijn in deelname aan de 24 uur van Le Mans en het WEC. In 2007 testte hij de Peugeot 908 op Aragon. Na afloop liet hij aan Turun Sanomat weten: "Het zou geweldig zijn om Le Mans te doen. Maar om daar te racen moet je ook de andere races doen, al is het alleen maar als een veredelde test om te wennen aan het materiaal."

Destijds kwam het er niet van, maar wie weet dient zich voor 2023 een nieuwe kans aan. Overigens heeft ook Charles Leclerc interesse getoond voor het Hypercar-project van zijn huidige werkgever. "Ik hou van Le Mans. Ik ben altijd fan geweest van dat evenement. Als de mogelijkheid er is, dan doe ik met alle plezier mee. Mijn focus ligt op de Formule 1, maar als het kan, waarom niet?"

Hm klinkt interessant, mss is er dan ook hoop dat Kimi ook nog in 2022 F1 doet; heeftie ook nog deze gloednieuwe generatie F1 auto's bestuurd. Wat een indrukwekkend gegeven; van de Sauber uit 2001 tot de F1 auto in 2022 die mss geen Alfa Romeo meer heet...

  Haha en die anekdote dat ie vlak voor de eerste race uit z'n carrière wakker gemaakt moest worden.. Nog geen enkele hartslag hoger dan normaal. :-)

Ben al jaren fan van de 24h Spa met de onwaarschijnlijk coole GT3's. De LM klasse ( LM-Hypercar is de nieuwe benaming, denk ik) heeft mij nooit echt kunnen bekoren. Maar als Ferrari instapt, wordt het ernstig en bijzonder interessant. En al zeker als de laatste Ferrarikampioen de bolide zal besturen. Wat een mooi vooruitzicht.

  Zo. Dat is wel even een reality check. Rai die de laatste Ferrari kampioen is. Is me niet onbekend natuurlijk. Maar het zat even niet hoog in m’n RAM-geheugen.
