Albon klaar om "wie dan ook zijn plek in te nemen" tijdens reserverol

Na een teleurstellend seizoen in 2020 is Alexander Albon vervangen door Sergio Perez. De Britse Thai zal wel in het Red Bull Racing-team blijven, maar zal daar een reserverol bemachtigen. Dit wil zeggen dat hij veel tijd doorbrengt in de simulator, maar ook als stand-by indien Max Verstappen of Sergio Perez niet zouden kunnen meedoen.

Echter, ook laat Alexander Albon weten dat hij nog steeds naar elke race meegaat, ook al zijn die ver weg van huis. Hij zal klaar zijn om "wie dan ook" zijn plek in te nemen, aangezien het coronavirus er nog steeds voor kan zorgen dat bepaalde coureurs niet mee mogen en kunnen doen aan een race-weekend.

"Ik zal eigenlijk bij elke race aanwezig zijn", zo vertelt Albon. "Of dat nou de verre races zijn of binnen Europa, naast veel support leveren wat betreft simulatie-data is het belangrijk dat ik er gewoon ben."

"Natuurlijk, met covid-19 nog steeds prominent in beeld, moeten we het nog steeds op safe spelen. Maar ik ben er, ik ben fit, en ik ben klaar om wie dan ook zijn plek in te nemen", zo vertelt Albon verder.

Hoewel Albon de RB16B zelf nog niet heeft bestuurd, maar legt wel uit wat zijn rol was in de ontwikkeling van de wagen waarmee Red Bull Racing en Honda hopen hun eerste titel mee te kunnen bemachtigen.

"De RB16B is een beetje mijn winterproject geweest', zo legt Albon uit. "Ik heb ervoor erg veel tijd in de simulator doorgebracht. Uiteraard werd het vorig jaar duidelijk dat de vorige wagen (RB16) wat problemen hadden, die hebben we geprobeerd eruit te halen, om ervoor te zorgen dat we meteen snel zijn. Het is goed om te zien dat veel dingen die we hebben geprobeerd ook daadwerkelijk op de auto zijn beland, dus al het harde werk is niet voor niets geweest", zo concludeert Alexander Albon.

Naast een reserverol voor Red Bull Racing (of welk ander team hem ook nodig mag hebben), zal Alexander Albon meedoen in de Duitse DTM serie. Oud Formule 1-coureurs Paul Di Resta en Pascal Wehrlein hebben daar onder andere al succes gevonden.

Blijf het toch knap vinden om iets te bedenken, zeg veranderde bargeboards, en dan in een simulator te kunnen bepalen of het op de baan gaat werken.

  Ik vind het al knap dat als ik van huis ben dat ik met 'n klein apparaatje kan bellen en internetten, ja, waar ik ook ben.
  Ik kan bv midden in 'n bos of midden in de polder reageren op 'n berichtje van GPvandaag, hoe knap is dat.
  
  Wat zeg ik, je kan midden in de polder blote tieten zien op het schermpje.

  ik ken dat, heb er zelf ook zo een,
  je kunt er óók mee bellen, appen en noem maar op,
  ongelooflijk, de techniek staat voor niets

Mijn broer zou morgen zijn tuin gaan renoveren (bestraten, borders maken en bomen herplanten) maar hij is door zijn rug gegaan.
Fijn dat Albon die reserve rol voor zich heeft opgenomen.
Dan hoef ik dat pokke werk niet te doen.
