F1-teams wachten op details van superkwalificatie

De Formule 1-teams wachten op de details van de drie races waarbij wordt geëxperimenteerd met de 'superkwalificatie' voor 2021. De teams hebben voorlopig groen licht gegeven voor het voorstel dat tijdens drie races in 2021 een 'sprintrace' op zaterdag de startgrid zal bepalen voor de race van zondag.

Volgens Andrew Green, technisch directeur bij Aston Martin, weten de teams echter nog altijd niet waar ze aan toe zijn. De details van de plannen moeten nog altijd bekend gemaakt worden en dus tasten de teams en coureur vooralsnog in het duister.

Green vertelde tegenover het Italiaanse Autosprint: "We hebben een aantal regels nodig en we hebben ze nog steeds niet. We hebben een voorstel gezien waarvan ik denk dat de meeste teams er een positieve mening over hebben, maar de duivel zit altijd in de details en die hebben we nog niet."

Vervangen van onderdelen

Het grootste probleem is volgens Green dat de Formule 1 en al zijn andere regels zijn ontworpen rond het idee dat de enige echte race op een zondag plaatsvindt. "Mogen we de remmen vervangen? Nog belangrijker, wat gebeurt er met de toewijzing van motoren?" hij vroeg zich af.

"In sommige opzichten zitten we vast omdat de motoren zijn ontworpen en getest voor een bepaald seizoen met een maximum aantal races, en het zal een behoorlijke uitdaging zijn om uit dat perspectief te stappen. Er is dus veel te bespreken, veel details om aan te werken, maar ik denk dat er een algemene bereidheid is om het te proberen. Maar, zoals ik al zei, de duivel verbergt zich altijd in de details."

  Zolang er geen punten worden uitgedeeld, dan ben ik voor. Als je toch punten wilt uitdelen, start dan een apart kwalificatie kampioenschap. P1 = 20 punten, P20 = 1 punt. Op de laatste zaterdag van het seizoen heb je een eerlijke stand in het kwalificatie kampioenschap en moet de rode lantaarn drager een liedje zingen en trakteert de winnaar op een avond flink zuipen onder alle coureurs. Wat weer tot interessante variabelen kan leiden tijdens de laatste race. Kotsen, migraine, zonnebril die afzakt in de helm, of tegen de richting in rijden bijvoorbeeld.

Wellicht een interessante gedoe.. maar blijft een gedoe. Ook kan ik me nog niet genoeg inspannen om naar FE the kijken.
Misschien ben ik niet zo positief omdat ik steeds meer een meer naar 12 rondjes per sessie verlang. Het liefst met een 10 of 12 kwalificatiemotor! ;-)

niets tegen dit experiment, maar het zou los moeten staan van de huidige vervangings beperkingen. Zowel in materieel als in (garage)tijd.
