Monaco streeft naar half gevulde tribunes voor Grand Prix

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van Monaco overweegt om toch publiek toe te laten bij het evenement. De race op het stratencircuit in het prinsdom staat op het programma voor 23 mei en het is onwaarschijnlijk dat het coronavirus dan al onder controle is. Toch hoopt Monaco fans aanwezig te kunnen laten zijn bij de Grand Prix.

Dat schrijft Paolo Ciccarone namens het Italiaanse Automoto. In het plan van Monaco zijn fans niet welkom in de paddock, om de Formule 1-bubbel zoveel mogelijk af te schermen van de buitenwereld, en worden de tribunes voor de helft gevuld. Op die manier is er genoeg ruimte om aan de regels met betrekking tot social distancing te voldoen.

De exacte uitwerking van de plannen is volledig afhankelijk van hoe de coronapandemie zich de komende weken ontwikkelt, stelt Ciccarone. De organisatie van de Grand Prix van Monaco probeert er in elk geval alles aan te doen om de baan te omringen met toeschouwers zodat de race zich niet tegen een decor van lege tribunes af zal spelen.

Eerder werd al duidelijk dat ook de Grand Prix van Bahrein, eind deze maand de opening van het seizoen 2021, publiek toe zal laten. De organisatie is vorige week met de kaartverkoop begonnen. Belangrijke voorwaarde om een ticket te kunnen kopen is wel dat diegene gevaccineerd tegen Covid-19 dient te zijn of net het coronavirus gehad moet hebben en daarvan hersteld moet zijn.

Ik denk dat er helemaal geen toeschouwers gaan komen, prik of niet, ze zullen dit aan houden, Britse virusvariant veel dodelijker'. Deze zomer moet je alles open gooien, alleen ik zie het niet gebeuren. Je leest nu al, mensen die een prik hebben gehad zijn die nog besmettelijk of niet. Daar ga je dus niet uitkomen als je zo doorgaat.

Jazeker. Iedereen die is gevaccineerd moet zich nog steeds houden aan de algemene coronaregels. Vaccinatie beschermt jou tegen ziekte door corona, maar we weten nog niet of iemand die gevaccineerd is toch het virus kan verspreiden.
