Het Lotus Renault GP-team mag in Canada racen met de huidige livery, zo maakte teambaas Eric Boullier vandaag bekend. De autoriteiten in Quebec waren bang dat de kleurstelling van Renault de regels op het gebied van tabaksreclame overschreed, maar dit blijkt niet het geval.

Het ministerie van gezondheid oordeelde vandaag dat het zwart/goude kleurschema van Lotus Renault meer te maken heeft met auto's uit de jaren tachtig dan een bepaalde tabakssponsor. "We zijn opgelucht dat we gewoon met onze eigen kleuren mogen racen in Canada", liet Boullier weten.

"De autoriteiten in Quebec merkte op dat de huidige kleuren op de auto links heeft naar de auto's uit de tachtiger jaren, waar iedereen werd gesponsord door de tabaksindustrie. Ze accepteerde dat wij geen directe of indirecte sponsorgelden onvangen vanuit de tabaksindustrie en we willen de autoriteiten bedanken voor hun begrip en vertrouwen in ons."
