Nürburgring niet beschikbaar voor Grand Prix: "Volledig volgeboekt"

Door de naam van de Nürburgring kan een streep op het lijstje met uitwijkmogelijkheden voor de Formule 1 voor het geval de situatie met het coronavirus de koningsklasse noopt om een andere racelocatie aan te doen dan de circuits die op dit moment op het schema staan. Het circuit in de Duitse Eifel, vorig jaar nog wel gastheer voor een Grand Prix, zit voor 2021 al vrijwel helemaal vol.

De Nürburgring heeft simpelweg geen plek op de eigen agenda voor een Formule 1-weekend. Circuitbaas Mirko Markfort liet weten: "Ondanks de coronapandemie is onze baan tot halverwege november volledig volgeboekt - zeven dagen per week, van maandag tot en met zondag." En een Grand Prix in de Eifel in november of december is vanwege de weersomstandigheden geen optie.

De kansen van Duitsland om dit jaar nog een Grand Prix te organiseren hangen dus af van de bereidwilligheid van de Hockenheimring om in te springen, mocht een mogelijkheid zich aandienen. Dat circuit vormde in 2019 voor het laatst het decor voor een Formule 1-race. De koningsklasse van de autosport zou de Duitse Grand Prix graag weer vast op de kalender opnemen.

Dat verkondigde Formule 1-directeur Stefano Domenicali aan Sport1. "Duitsland blijft een belangrijke markt voor ons. Ik kan verklappen dat ik recent met afvaardigingen van zowel de Nürburging als de Hockenheimring heb gesproken om de mogelijkheden voor een permanente terugkeer af te tasten. Ik hoop dat we ergens in de komende maanden een oplossing weten te vinden."

  Misschien met dit soort dingen wel, maar met andere zaken zijn ze zo vlug als dikke stront om het maar zo te zeggen. Met het maken van afspraken zijn ze vrij rap, maar het nakomen ervan laat op zich wachten, en wachten, en wachte, en wacht, en wach, en wac, en wa, en w, en......

Zijn er nog andere grade A circuits in Duitsland?
Bilsterberg of de Laustizring zien er best aardig uit. Beiden 4.5 km lang, wat bochtenwerk, kleine hoogteverschillen.

Wat een onzin, als de formule 1 komt aankloppen dan verdwijen er vast wel wat track days ineens van de kalender.

Gewoon spierballentaal om er een betere deal uit te slepen voor de (nabije) toekomst.
