Raikkonen: "Zinloos om te mijmeren over wat we kunnen verwachten"

Het nieuwe Formule 1-seizoen staat voor de deur en dat is gewoonlijk de tijd van bespiegelingen vooraf. Wie gaat het goed doen? Hoe staat het er na de wintertest(s) voor? Zulke vragen zijn niet aan Alfa Romeo-coureur Kimi Raikkonen besteed. De Fin ziet komend weekend bij de Grand Prix van Bahrein wel hoe de kaarten zijn geschud.

Raikkonen: "Ik kijk niet naar de tijden die gereden zijn tijdens de drie testdagen die we hier twee weken geleden hebben afgewerkt. Het is zinloos om aan de hand daarvan te mijmeren over wat we kunnen verwachten. Zaterdag in de kwalificatie krijgen we een indicatie van waar iedereen staat en welke gevechten zich zullen afspelen dit jaar. Tot die tijd focussen we ons op ons eigen werk, op het verbeteren van wat we hadden tijdens de testweek en op elke mogelijkheid benutten."

De wereldkampioen van 2007 heeft in ieder geval zin om weer te gaan racen. "De eerste race van het seizoen is altijd een speciaal moment, vooral omdat ik het racen dan een tijdje heb moeten missen. Testen is leuk en aardig, maar wiel-aan-wiel actie is wat deze sport zo bijzonder maakt. Dat gebeurt alleen tijdens de wedstrijden, dus dat is iets om me op te verheugen", aldus Raikkonen.
