Pirelli tevreden met nieuwe compounds: ''Het is bijna precies wat we er van verwachten''

Pirelli was te spreken over de prestaties van hun nieuwe banden tijdens de eerste twee sessies. ''We zijn tevreden. Het is bijna precies wat we er van verwachten na uitgebreid testen in Bahrein laatst'', zei Pirell-baas Mario Isola.

''Teams focussen nu op de C4 soft-band in het bijzonder. Ze hebben al veel data verzameld met de C2 en C3 met het testen twee weken terug. Het verschil in prestaties tussen de medium en soft is een stukje groter dan we in eerste instantie dachten, terwijl de harde en medium band dichterbij elkaar liggen. Dat betekent dat alle banden een belangrijke rol kunnen gaan spelen in de race.''

Pirelli bepaald vooraf aan elke Grand Prix-weekend welke drie van de totaal vijf soorten rubber meegenomen worden. Deze drie soorten rubber worden onderverdeeld in soft, medium en hard.

Tussen het harde werk door, genoot Isola van de eerste vrijdag van het nieuwe seizoen. ''We zagen twee, drukke eneverende sessies met drie teams in de topdrie na elk verreden uur."
