Nico Hulkenberg reservecoureur voor Mercedes en Aston Martin

Nico Hulkenberg heeft bevestigd dat hij in 2021 reservecoureur zal zijn voor Aston Martin. De Duitser verloor eind 2019 zijn racestoeltje, maar reed vorig jaar nog drie keer toen Racing Point-coureurs Sergio Perez en Lance Stroll met corona besmet raakten en daardoor niet konden racen.

Terwijl Racing Point voor 2021 omgedoopt werd tot Aston Martin, vertelde Hulkenberg vrijdag aan Servus TV: "Ja, ik zal een reservecoureur zijn voor Aston Martin en zal die rol ook vervullen voor Mercedes in bepaalde races."

Naast zijn nieuwe baan als expert F1-expert voor de Oostenrijkse televisie Servus TV, glimlachte de 33-jarige terwijl hij zei dat hij dit jaar een 'drievoudige rol' zal vervullen.

Maar in feite zou Hulkenberg in 2021 een vierde rol kunnen spelen, omdat ook McLaren met een Mercedes-motor rijdt en ook de beschikking heeft om Hulkenberg op te roepen vanwege de Duitse motoren die het afneemt.

"We hebben een overeenkomst met Toto Wolff en Mercedes om in geval van nood een beroep te kunnen doen op hun reservecoureurs", vertelde McLaren-teambaas Andreas Seidl aan RTL.

ik ben dat gedoe met Hulkenberg een beetje beu eerlijk gezegd.
224 jaar de tijd gehad om in een topteam te geraken en nu dat ie zonder stoeltje zit blijkt hij 1 van de beste coureurs te zijn.
Voor de rest is het wel een toffe kerel.

    Ja,nou dan kan hij ook voor RBR reserve coureur zijn.
    Ik vind Nico een aardige gast,maar hij moet niet te selectief worden...

      Nico is alleen reservecoureur voor mercedes bij races waar Vandoorne en De Vries door FE verplichtingen niet aanwezig kunnen zijn.

      Hoe kom jij aan die andere 2 jaar erbij?

      Ik denk dat Lewis daar een veto over uitgesproken heeft bij zijn contractonderhandelingen. Die wil niet nog een keer voor schut komen te staan door Russell net zo snel te zien zijn in zijn auto, laat staan dat Russell hem het vuur aan de schenen mag leggen in de auto van Bottas.
