Pierre Gasly: "AlphaTauri vecht dit jaar met Ferrari en McLaren"

Pierre Gasly gelooft dat AlphaTauri de snelheid heeft om met Ferrari en McLaren te vechten voor de derde plaats in het constructeurkampioenschap. De Fransman liet de vorige keer een solide snelheid zien in Bahrein, beginnend op een sterke vijfde plaats op de grid, voor de twee McLaren's van Lando Norris en Daniel Ricciardo.

Na de herstart van de Safety Car die naar buiten kwam om de Haas van Nikita Mazepin af veilig achter de vangrails te krijgen, tikte de Fransman de achterkant van Ricciardo aan waardoor zijn voorvleugel beschadigde. Gasly moest naar de pits voor reparaties en wist de race uiteindelijk niet uit te rijden vanwege problemen met de versnellingsbak.

"Ik denk gezien de snelheid die we het hele weekend hebben getoond, we in de mix zitten met de Ferrari en de McLaren en dat is het positieve. Ik denk dat we duidelijk met hen en op alle circuits zullen vechten."

Punten gemist

Toch heerst er vooralsnog teleurstelling bij Gasly omdat hij de eerste kans om met de McLarens en Ferrari's te vechten, niet kon benutten: "Toen ik het contact had met de McLaren, was de race daarna zo goed als voorbij. Ik brak de voorvleugel, ik beschadigde de vloer en dat was in principe mijn race. We hadden wat meer problemen tegen het einde van de race, wat betekende dat we de auto moesten stoppen."

"Ik ben natuurlijk erg teleurgesteld, want er was een goed gevecht met de Ferrari's en de McLarens. We zijn een groot aantal punten misgelopen."

"Ik denk gezien de snelheid die we het hele weekend hebben getoond, we in de mix zitten met de Ferrari en de McLaren en dat is het positieve. Ik denk dat we duidelijk met hen en op alle circuits zullen vechten."

Dat denk ik ook, maar het zal er ook van afhangen hoe snel elk team z'n wagen doorontwikkelt. McLaren lijkt me ook erg sterk met twee goede coureurs. en Ferrari idem dito. 🤔🤔🤔

  Ze gaan zeker aanhaken of er voorbij want ze hebben een goed concept en twee hele sterke coureurs.

  We gaan dit jaar van beide AT’s nog mooie acties zien. Met het veld dichter op elkaar en een goed mix van ervaren en jonge ambitieuze coureurs gaan we dit jaar een spannend seizoen beleven.
